Airplay on old Apple TV
Hi. I have a now old apple tv. I was wondering will it support the new ios feature airplay or not? Also will it support the renting tv shows? Thanks.

I totally agree. The fact that airport express devices work, and that streaming from iTunes 10.1 still functions proves this.

Old Airport Express still works because there is no new Airport Express to sell us.
Seems like an odd way to reward the early adopters. I've never been impressed with my $400 Apple TV. I'm moving on. Apple has permanently lost my TV business. Good riddance.
The problem is the new features do not work- like playing audio from your iPad or iPhone.

I bought an atv1 to be an upgrade for an airport express. If the AE can do it im f--king sure the atv1 can.
Software support is still available. New features are not.

yeah well then how in the heck are they going to use third party hardware manufacturers for streaming and not even be able to transmit to their own 1st gen device?
Bought new ATV1 from Apple retail store less than 2 months ago. Come on Apple put this thread to sleep by announcing a software update for the 1st gen ATV.
The ATV1 is also based on a 5 year old architecture. I doubt it has the same umph that the new A4 in the ATV2 has.
