macbook pro core i7 high res anti-glare screen garbled graphics

My two month old macbook pro consistently (once every day or two) produces a garbled up screen after using it for a few hours. The only way to resolve this is to restart the computer. I've talked with apple support and have gone into the store for help and so far everyone is clueless and offer no real advice. I can't take a screenshot on the machine once this occurs, the picture just comes up blank, but I did take pictures with my cellphone.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and is this most likely a graphics hardware error?

Absolutely right - the question in my mind is whether this is so common that it would be called endemic to the design, or if I (and others here) have uniquely defective units.

I also had the issue of scrambled images in Safari, as well as screenshots. I took my Macbook Pro to the Apple store last week. The man at the Genius Bar looked at it ,ran hardware tests, and the results came out as negative. Finally he decided to take it in for repair anyway. Here I am a few days later with a new logic board and I'm still experiencing scrambled images although nowhere near as bad as before.

I also have EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM on my MBP i7 15" here's a picture:

I get these distorted graphics everyday while using safari, specially happens on Top Sites, on Gmail, Youtube ... I took my MBP i7 to Apple Care Center, they said they run all possible tests and didn't found any problem at all.

So I got my computer back from Apple Service Center on Nov 6 (yesterday) and it is still happening... After reading all your posts on this thread I know that is totally worthless to replace the logic board or anything since this exact issue is happening to all of us.

So what we can do besides of waiting for Apple to take action ?

1.) Does switching to the better graphics processer fix for everyone?

2.) It would seem that no amount of test by Apple Store techs or replacement of logic board, etc fixes the issue.

This is probably more software related...that said, what software? Do the garbled images of the Safari sites have something in common?

For me, I only see it when switching between Safari and Mail, or between Safari windows.
If I turn on the better processer, it fixes with no issues.

The BEST thing we can ALL DO is report feedback to apple via the feedback/bug link AND if you have AppleCare log the issue with them.

It wouldn't hurt to point them to this thread either.

Hi, guys, I'm experiencing the exact same problem here... It seems to me that it is a problem with Intel's integrated graphics, since switching to Nvidia's graphics make the problem stop. My MAC is also a 2 month's old i7.

It has happened to me while I was using Safari and with the preview software. Really doesn't seem like a software issue, I believe it's a hardware issue. I'll talk to Apple people tomorrow, hope they can fix this. A Mac is a way too expensive computer to make us deal with an unsolved bug. I'm really frustrated.

Cheers,

Renata

Oh, I forgot to mention, something else really weird also happened to me today: I went to system preferences and switched to NVidea's video card to see if the problem happened while it was on.

After doing my tests, when after selecting the option to switch back to Intel's integrated graphics, my whole system preferences screen turned black!! I had to close the tab and then open it again in order to see the systems options again....

@rgobrasil: the thing is that this problem started to everyone around the same time period which is October, most likely the culprit appoints to be "Flash last update" in some way such Flash update affects the intel chip even if flash is not running.

I disabled the "Automatic Graphic Switching" and I have not encountered this problem anymore, however disabling the "automatic graphic switching" is not a real fix since your battery duration goes down faster.

We need an update from Apple+AdobeFlash to fix this bug. That would be the REAL solution to this annoying problem.

Of course, must be Flash even if Flash is not running! 8-) I seriously doubt this.

Since I have replicated this problem using DVD Player straight from boot without running Flash or Safari at all, I would bet dollars to donuts it's not Flash, though I know some folks prefer to blame Flash for every problem that ever occurs on a Mac...

Hi, guys!

I have no idea which flash version I had installed in my computer and what I just did is: I went to Adobe's website and manually updated my flash player to version 10.1. I then went back to systems preferences and selected again the option to switch automatically between integrated and nvidia's graphics. I tried gmail then and opened all the websites and files that were troubleshooting before and they all seem just fine now...

HOWEVER, when I was getting all the problems I posted earlier, my Mac was running under batteries and right now it is power connected. Could the problems be related to the computer's power source?? I don't have a clue, maybe the question itself is stupid... sorry... 🙂

Anyway, once my battery is fully charged I'll disconnect the power cable and see what happens. I'll post back to let you know!

Thanks for the help!

Cheers,

Renata

It is not anything related to the power source what is causing this problem.

If you updated flash to its last version either by apple update or directly on the adobe flash site your intel chip is going to get corrupted. The solution to fix this is either downgrading Flash to version 10.0.45.2 or to disable the "automatic graphic switching" this last option only allows nvidia chip to work, that's why it consumes your MBP battery life faster.
