Netflix Problems

Anybody else having this problem? I had no trouble signing into my Netflix account (Instant Queue, recently played, etc...) but when I try to play something on the ATV it takes a long time to load then stops after two or three seconds. I tried this over wi-fi and with ethernet. I do not have particularly fast DSL but I watch Netflix on my Mac all the time with no problems. Also, I had no trouble streaming a movie trailer on the ATV. Just a Netflix bug? Any ideas?

I am also having trouble accessing Netflix via ATV2, but only sometimes. ATV2 connected to my TimeCapsule and cable broadband connection. Have used both wired ethernet and the wireless. Sometimes unplugging the ATV2 solves the problem in the short-term. Been having a lot of trouble with it tonight. I doubt it has anything to do with the Netflix service itself since every time ATV2 has trouble accessing Netflix, it works fine via our Wii. Gotta be in the ATV2.

I have also had the problems with Netflix connectivity and scheduled an appointment to have Apple support call me about it. For the first few weeks I had no problems with Netflix but in the last week there have been two separate occasions when Apple TV said it could not connect to Netflix (although You Tube and everything else on the network worked fine). The first time I had problems I unplugged the power cord from Apple TV as the Netflix website suggested and it worked. The second time I couldn't connect to Netflix I again unplugged the power cord but it didn't work and then proceeded to kick me out of Netflix altogether. However, after I retyped my username and password it allowed me back in. Hopefully the Apple technician will have a more permanent fix or be able to provide information about when such a solution will arrive.

I too was having issues streaming netflix tonight. I was getting this error:

"Sorry we could not configure your device. Please try again later. If the problem persists please visit the Netflix website. (114:500)"

So I tried reconnecting several times, same thing. Then I tried restoring the Apple TV 2, that didn't work. So I tried unplugging the Apple TV, waited 30 seconds, replugged it in and BAM! it worked.

Ok, I WAS having the same issues with ATV not logging in to Netflix and telling me to try again later. It started in the evening of 11/8/10 around 5pm until about 8pm, but came back on. The next night (11/9/10) at 5pm the same thing happened but it wouldn't come back on/connect.

Now, I NEVER lost the ability to watch Netflix through my computer or our Wii system, just the ATV.

Anyway, through the recommendation of another member who posted in this thread, I "restored" the ATV, forcing it to download the software update. After the restore, i started getting the "error" messages that others had mentioned (i.e. 114:500).

I then went online to access my "account settings" in Netflix and "deactivated" my ATV.

I unplugged my ATV to reset it and then logged back in to Netflix. The first time it didn't log in for some reason but it was showing movie suggestions on the main menu screen. So, I clicked on one of them and was able to play it. Then I went back to the main menu screen again, and I was able to access my Netflix account.

This is what I did and it is still working today. We will see.

I hope this helps some of you.

Here is what today brought.

Firstly, I discovered that after restoring the ATV, my problem logging into Nextflix was because I was using the wrong email address. After fixing that, I could login but still got the "cannot connect to Netflix service" message with no numeric code.

Next, I called Netflix and, after explaining that I had already tried changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and power cycling the ATV, which sometimes worked and sometimes did not, they suggested that I power cycle my Airport Wireless router.

That solved the problem for now. The Netflix rep indicated that if the problem persists, then the router may need to be reconfigured.

Oh my. One more day in which to return the ATV to Amazon. What to do? What to do? Life on the bleeding edge of technology!

Needless to say, my iMac, also on the wireless network, has no problem playing Netflix videos.

I went into my netflix account. Clicked "Your account and help", then scrolled down to the right hand side and clicked "Manage netflix devices and computers". I then deactivated the apple tv, and closed out of my web browser.

I then went back to appletv, restarted it by uplugging it and plugging it back then. I then went to netflix and re-entered my email and password, and everything went back to working.

Still no progress, but I wanted to update that I have tried a hard reboot, tried updating to the 4.1 software, changed the DNS to the recommended, Deactivated - then reactivated my ATV2 from netflix.... all to no avail. The next thing I am going to try is to bring it into my office and try from there. I am hoping this will rule out a speed or router issue.

PS: wanted to add that my ATV2 is not throwing me any error messages... some streams simply wont work.

I have had the same problem. The first time it occurred I updated the AppleTV software and then it worked. The second time I unplugged the AppleTV power cable and replugged it and it worked.

The problem is specific to streaming from Netflix. The other services provided through AppleTV such as Youtube, Podcasts, etc, worked fine. So it is not a network or wireless issue with the router. Also, I could always stream movies to a computer that was hardwired to router.

Even though I could not stream from Netflix I could see all of the menus (Instant queue, search, recently played, etc.) and could interact with them fine.

The problem is with AppleTV. It is a shame because otherwise I have had no other problems and the streaming, when it worked, was excellent.
