Netflix Problems

Anybody else having this problem? I had no trouble signing into my Netflix account (Instant Queue, recently played, etc...) but when I try to play something on the ATV it takes a long time to load then stops after two or three seconds. I tried this over wi-fi and with ethernet. I do not have particularly fast DSL but I watch Netflix on my Mac all the time with no problems. Also, I had no trouble streaming a movie trailer on the ATV. Just a Netflix bug? Any ideas?

Working now...
Tried again didn't work - but didn't crash the apple tv this time.
So, I reboot the box (I unplugged it - waited a minute, plugged it back in - shame an on/off switch was too high tech for this box). After reboot, I had to log in to Netflix again, but it works now. Whoever fixed this, thanks.

Okay...

So between this topic and several others we are talking 1,100+ postings, 200,000+ people tracking these topics. Hmmm... seems like there must be something important going on here.

Given the full range of issues people are having, regardless of many miscellaneous random fixes that have worked for a few folks, I think it is high time for a blitz on the high chairman of Apple himself: Steve Jobs and his counterpart at Netflix.

Now I am not suggesting we simply slam Apple/Netflix on this (since this did work well in the past), but let's state the the facts: The ATV2 as advertised, does NOT support Netflix streaming out-of-the-box - which is why many of us purchased the ATV2 in the first place.

As previously mentioned by some very smart folks, "your grandma should be able to plug the ATV2 into her TV and enjoy a Netflix streamed show any time she wants." She should not have to tweak DNS settings, hardwire her ATV2, or do any other silly fiddling to make it work. That is NOT the Apple Computer way of creating products or that vaunted beautifully elegant user experience.

So, given the overwhelming attention the user community has given to this topic, lets invite Apple to get involved first hand. Together with their colleagues at Netflix, I am sure they can come to a solution.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

1) Send a polite and detailed email to mister Steve Jobs: sjobs@apple.com explaining the issue and that you wish Apple to pursue a solution. I have done this in the past and actually received my first response, during the Xserve cancellation. He actually cares what the company does and produces. I sent my email this afternoon.

2) Contact Netflix support, and specify the same thing: I love your service and I love the Apple TV2, I just wish that it all worked like it works on my PS3, Wii, XBOX, iPad, etc.... I conteacted Netflix a week ago about this - TBD on a response...

We can talk about this all day and forever on these forums which is valuable, but until we exert some community pressure on the folks who can actually make a difference in these problems (read: Apple software and Netflix software engineers) nothing substantive will happen.

Email Steve, Netflix, talk to your Apple store manager. Pester folks until they cry "uncle" and decide, "hey, there must be something whacked out with the ATV2 we need to look into and fix."

Let's get a little grass roots activism going! Go Apple community!

Or what about some real apps? Perhaps (dare I say it???), an apps store? Or what about the ability to play non-"apple formatted" videos from an external USB device plugged into the usb-mini port in the back? But that is my personal Apple TV fantasy. I am really more easily satisfied than that.... if I could just have a hulu + option, I wouldn't mind if Netflix was down occasionally (as long as Hulu + was working that evening!)... But, as it stands... Each one of these "hiccups" decreases the convenience factor and overall appeal of my apple tv.

Each time it happens, I Google some of the other competitors that seem to have more flexibility and I start to wonder what I can get for an apple Tv on craigslist. Perhaps, I will buy another option and start running them side-by-side - keeping the winner and craigslisting the loser....

I installed the new firmware update for my ATV last night which seems to resolve most of the issues I was having with Netflix. While watching Kyle XY my audio did go out of sync only once and the video stopped only once. Otherwise after watching two full episodes it seems like the ATV for the most part is fixed. I think Netflix itself has some content issues with it's tv shows. As for the sync issue, as long as I stop then resume whatever I'm watching the video will sync with the audio again. Hopefully my ATV will play nice as far as Netflix is concerned.. Otherwise I'm looking at getting a Roku for my Netflix experience otherwise. Outside of that, the ATV has been perfect for everything else but YouTube as of late. Why, oh why apple did you screw up YouTube subscriptions?

Email from Netflix today: In response to problems watching instantly Netflix is applying a credit. "We will issue your credit to your account in the next few days. It will automatically be applied to your next billing statement. You don't need to do anything. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. If you need further assistance, please call us at 1-866-923-0898. "

I've been having similar issues, the program stopping or skipping after the first few seconds - sometimes halfway through a show - thus throwing the sound out of sync. This also renders the ATV useless as far as scanning backward or forward. All I can do is go back to Netflix menu and start the program over. The problem with that however, is that it never remembers where I left off and must scan to resume the program.
I don't have these problems when I run Netflix on PS3.
