Netflix Problems

Anybody else having this problem? I had no trouble signing into my Netflix account (Instant Queue, recently played, etc...) but when I try to play something on the ATV it takes a long time to load then stops after two or three seconds. I tried this over wi-fi and with ethernet. I do not have particularly fast DSL but I watch Netflix on my Mac all the time with no problems. Also, I had no trouble streaming a movie trailer on the ATV. Just a Netflix bug? Any ideas?

Just for the record, I have the same problem.

The loads forever, plays a few seconds, and kicks back out like you chose it problem.

Tried the google dns. nothing. My DSL speed is not the greatest.. but it's the EXACT same problem you all are having, so that can't be the issue. I just picked mine up from the Apple store yesterday. Was pretty bummed last night when I couldn't get netflix to work within minutes.

NETFLIX WORKING AGAIN FOR ME (as of last night)

WHAT I DID:

1. Based on another member here (who had 100's of Movies in his Netflix Que) - I deleted about 10 of my movies in the que.... (I only had 20).... but did this for good measure

2. I rented a movie from Apple... ... watched the movie

3. After finishing the movie - went into Netflix and just played the first thing I saw on my screen (in my case...Arrested Development)

It just started working.... I know this is lame instructions... but....worked for me (or just a coincidence)

Yo Yo, to all the people with the same problem i HAD it took a little but i figured out 3 ways to fix the problem.
1. go to netflix.com click on your account & help, then find manage netflix ready devices and computers midway on page. Make sure your device is configured there.
2. Go to same place in your account & help and click on problem watching instantly, when the next options come up click explanation of a streaming error code. Type the according code for your problem and go from there.
3. The fastest way is to simply restore apple tv to its factory settings not reset, also update and then enjoy all the luxuries or netflix once again!

Another person with the same exact problem. A new bit of data, though: my Netflix streaming through my PS3, which is connected to the same wireless network, works absolutely fine. Plus, I can stream what I've got on my computer or anything off YouTube through to the box just fine. Therefore: not a network/antenna problem, not an internet connection problem, not a Netflix account problem. There's something wrong with the ATV Netflix software.

Patch it!

Same error message for me when trying to play on Netflix. The solution was to hardcode my DNS in the AppleTV—for some reason it had been inserting the address of my wireless router instead of the DNS provided by my Internet provider. Once I stuck the ISPs DNS into Apple TV Netflix started working.

THANK YOU!! I was on the phone with Apple about this issue and their solution was for me to drive an hour to the apple store. They really need to update their knowledgebase so their helpdesk people have this. Adding the DNS fixed my problem.

Recap: My starts Netlix but it takes a very long time to load and then it kicks out after a few seconds. I have ATV v 2 with a rather slow DSL connection.

I have tried:
1. Connecting directly to my DSL modem with a cable.
2. Changing my DNS.
3. Deleting and reordering my queue.
4. I deleted my machine from Netflix->My account->Manage Netflix Ready

I have not tried renting anything from Apple.

I would like to introduce a new twist. While playing around last night I tried a movie that they randomly recommended (Punch Drunk Love) and it worked. I went back and tried 30 Rock and it didn't. Neither did Parks and Recreation. But Battlestar Gallactica did. In other words, it seems to dislike TV shows. But not all of them. Can you other guys try these shows and see if you get the same results?

I have a similar problem. The content loads, plays for 5 seconds and takes me back to the main menu. Some shows/movies work fine but others don't. It seems to me that it is just the shows that are in HD that won't work. I tried The Office, Bones, Thirty Rock and none work for me. Could it be that loads in HD realizes my connection won't support it in HD and when it tries to load a standard version it fails? Just throwing out ideas. Called Apple and Netflix today but they didn't have any solution.

I have been an Apple fan since the days of my Bell and Howell Edition of the Apple II (my first Mac was an SE 30) so this ATV not working with Netflix was very disappointing. After trying many of the solutions listed I finally solved the problem with my queue and it was surprisingly simple. I went to settings and under general and checked software update. The ATV replied I had the newest version but I still had trouble with my Netflix queue and episodes bouncing back out of play. I turned on "send data to Apple" and went under the reset menu and chose "restore." (I had previously tried to just "reset" and that did not work.) The ATV downloaded all of the software and then worked without a problem. Two things I wonder about: 1)I usually like my privacy and didn't like turning on the send data to Apple but I figure Netflix tracks everything I do anyway and there is no way around that so not a big concern. From a software vantage point this seems silly but I had tried other variations of fixing the problem that did not work and this did so go figure. 2) My thought is that Netflix and Apple are both trying to save face and not admit a software problem that was not caught before the new ATV launched. My guess is that even though I had the latest software version when I restored the ATV it downloaded a patch that is not being freely admitted to by either party. Regardless - everything works now and I really like the new ATV.
