iTunes store temporarily unavailable?

I am getting the following message when I click to open the iTunes store:

"We could not complete your iTunes store request. The iTunes store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

Is anyone else having this issue?

Thank you.

OK, similar problem to everyone else, on 2 individual windows machines iTunes 11.0.5 my Apple ID suddenly refused to access the iTunes store with the dreaded "Store temporarily unavailable" where as, I could successfully log in with my girlfriends ID.

The usual frustrating standrard & completly useless response was forthcoming from the "Apple Representative" when I emailed for help (the only option showing in the UK).

Anyways, based on your attempt to fix things Chris from within itunes I selected the create new account option & insread of following through with setting up a new ID I attempted to use the log in option at the top of the screen.

This actually worked & took me to the page where I needed to confirm my details again. It would appear that, my girlfriend having just had a new iPhone 5, using some of my apps, downloaded through iTunes, has triggered a security feature which blocked my account. Re-confirming my card details did the trick.

I would therefore suggest, although I won't guarantee success, try the above, if it doesn't work & you can log into your ID through the web, delete your existing payment details on your ID by selecting NONE and then re-input them. Hopefully this will solve the issue (at least for some).

At no other point has the Apple bothered to advise me I needed to re-confirm my details. Thanks Apple for 48 hours of frustration!!!!!

iTunes for Windows: iTunes Store connection troubleshooting

If you are able to access the web, but you are unable to access the iTunes Store, see the troubleshooting steps below.

Remove pop-up blockers

Some pop-up or ad-blocking programs may interfere with the ability of iTunes to connect to the iTunes Store. Removing them in many cases will resolve the issue.

Flush DNS Setting in Windows

In some cases, the DNS information you computer uses to connect to the Internet needs to be reset. Follow these instructions to flush your Windows DNS information:

Windows XP

  1. On the Start menu, click Run.
  2. In the Open field type cmd and click OK.
  3. In the resulting window, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Return on the keyboard.
  4. You should see a message that the DNS Resolver Cache has been successfully flushed.

Windows Vista and Windows 7

  1. On the Start menu, point to All Programs > Accessories and then right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator from the shortcut menu. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue.
  2. In the resulting window, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Return on the keyboard.
  3. You should see a message that the DNS Resolver Cache has been successfully flushed.

Note: If, in the command prompt, you see this message: "The requested operation requires elevation", close the command prompt and repeat steps 1 and 2 above to be sure that Administrator privileges are used to access to Command Prompt.

I 'm having the same 'temporarily unavailable' issue for the last week or so. Nothing helps. And what interesting - I can sign in with my GF's account from the same PC ! ) Seems like that particular account got broken or something. Somehow I was able to sign in yesterday but then I got the same pop up error again and it still persists. There's a bug in the accounts handling and Apple just ignores it . What a shame.

Hey guys, I was having this problem on my 2010 Macbook Pro since updating iTunes to version 11.1. I could sign into any account but my main Apple ID, which would always give the "temporarily unavailable" message. After a marathon session with an Apple tech, we found the solution.

To fix this error on a Mac, open Safari. Access the Preferences from the Safari menu and go to the Privacy tab. From here, change Block Cookies to Never (you can set this back when you're done) and click the Remove All Website Data. When I was doing this, I wiped out everything; there is the possibility you do not have to check all the boxes, but do it if you can to make this quick and easy. Close Safari, load up iTunes again and sign in/authorize your computer. With any luck, this has worked. You can pop back into the Safari settings to change your cookie setting back to "third party and advertisers" or whatever it is. Doing this will most likely make iTunes ask for your password again. Should work fine, though.

I hope this helps some people out. I looked long and hard for a solution to this problem and I'd love to save someone the trouble.
