"You are not a member of the Administrator group" message

I just got a new 32GB iPod touch. Whenever I try and download an app I get this message "You are not a member of the Administrator group"

I have looked through iTunes to try and find a setting to switch but I have not been able to find one.

Thanks

I just bought an iPod Touch and I was receiving the same message. Have you already registered your iPod through iTunes? I was not registered and I resolved it by doing the following: First log into your home computer through an administrator account. Start iTunes and register (download iTunes if you don't have it and I had my iPod connected to the computer although it might not be necessary). Register as though you do not have an apple ID. You will be asked for an e-mail address, password, credit card info, etc.. I'm not totally sure but the e-mail address might need to be the same one you entered on your iPod when you initially booted it up. After you complete the registration process and go to download apps from your iPod use the e-mail address and password that you entered during registration. This worked for me.

The ID needs to be an email address. The one you used for your Apple ID. I personally created and account, using a non-email address. It seemed to accept it. It even rejected a few names, then finally accepted one. It never requested an email address (that I remember). My solution was to create a new Apple ID, and for the ID, use my email address. Everything worked fine after that. The error message was totally worthless in helping to resolve that. I found this answer on another forum.

The other hitch was that I tried to create an account for my 8 year old daughter. Not eligible. But it did not say why. And if the problem was the age, it did not say the minimum age required

You can change your appleID to be an email address format by going to http://appleid.apple.com then clicking Manage Your Account. Once upon a time apple used to allow usernames that were not email addresses but this has changed. These old "usename only" ID's can still be used for the itunes store and app store but will not work for iCloud, Facetime, or iMessage.

Libin1same feeling here. This is ******* no sense. I wish someone from Apple read this forum information. I first used my son's birthday and during the process I realized from some message that it might be not right so I switched to my birthday. It's still give me me the error message you guys described. I will try to create a new account. But why can't i modify vs create a new one? This is my first ipad. I've been a software developer for over 10 years. I can't believe they build such a piece of junk software. Moving to Mac world, No way. I am returning this toy and get Android based tablet if it fails again.

I had the same problem when trying to log on to Apple Store using my Apple ID. When you register Apple ID, you used an email address, say, "JOE@AAAA.Com". When you try to log in, you need to use the full email address as ID, not just JOE. I tried that way and got the same messsage, but when I used the email address in full, I logged in without any issue. Hope this helps.

I have the problem you described, no email is attached to my GC account. It lets me login to GC just fine. But I can't do anything else with it. There is no place in GC settings for an Apple ID...which is apparently in everyone else's GC settings.

When I try to use my GC nickname to login to anything else besides GC, I get the "You are not a member....." Message.

What should I do; I have lots of achievements that I don't want to lose....any suggestions?

This seems to be a standard error message. I had it today after re-setting a password I had forgotten (I had not used this account for some time). My mistake was that I was not entering the COMPLETE email address as my username (which i had obviously set up a long time ago). Once the full email address was entered I was allowed entry into the account - subject to a few other verifications.

I have the same problem but have figured out the following, which I hope helps someways to figure out how to fix these problems.

If you open iTunes and look under Store, View Account - it shows a true Apple ID (with Email). Click this and you get an Account Summary. Look down further to iTunes in the Cloud, Manage Devices. Click this and you will see Associated Devices (iPad, iPod etc) 'managed' by the Apple ID (email) seen earlier. It is THIS Apple ID that has Adminstrator Privileges on the device(s) and so why, on the device in question, you get the 'You are not a member of the administrator group' message when you are not signed in using that Apple ID on the device, eg. using a Nickname only ID in Games Centre.

There are tick boxes you can uncheck to remove the devices from the control of the Apple ID shown in iTunes.

But, before you do..

An 'Apple' ID that just has a Nickname (no email) can never have Adminstrative rights as it is a Childs Account (when the Birthdate is entered as <13). These 'Nickname' IDs can only be created in the Games Centre App on the device - it is misleading to call it an Apple ID really. It is the only way you can create a GC account to play without inputting any personal or Creditcard details in. However, the main Apple ID (with email) has to have been logged in on the device at some time beforehand and downloaded the Apps - the device remembers it. This main Apple ID account then automatically 'manages' the Child account from there on. When logged in under the 'Nickname' account, no Apps can be downloaded or In-App purchases made. If you try and do so, you will be prompted for the 'Managing' Apple ID (& email)'s password. It's a safeguard to prevent kids buying out the store or having your Creditcard details on numerous ID's/devices. Likewise, you can't log in via Apple Stores or sites with this Nickname ID as it isn't a valid Apple ID proper. No creditcard, No full account basically! That's why a Nickname ID can never be updated or changed. There isn't any way to security check and validate the account.

This part I am not sure on..backup devices before doing anything!

However, if you create another proper Apple ID (& email) via iTunes or App Store, meaning an Adult Birthdate and supply Creditcard details etc. on the device, then log out of that and via the Games Centre App, log in as the Nickname Account, I think this will then link to that Apple ID, rather than the previous one - freeing the previous 'owner'. As before though, you will have to log into the new Apple ID&email account and use the password for any purchases. This way, you can log in and keep your progress on any GC games played under the Nickname. If you don't care and want to start afresh, just start a new GC account/game using the new proper Apple ID on the device.

Just one more thing though, any Apps already on the device will always be owned by that original Apple ID. If you want ownership, you will have to delete the App(s) and download fresh under the New Apple ID (email). The Nickname can never own anything.

My brain hurts...
