Default AirPlay Setting in iTunes (mine is not iTunes)

That worked! I should have thought ot it myself! Wi-fi is so ubiquitous now that I only notice it when it is missing.
This seems like the proper way to change the default. I had changed the setting in only the "Single" setting tab and not the "Multiple" tab. Having to resort to the other fixes requiring a disconnect completely from the Apple TV seems very hokey and not Apple-like. Of course, Apple's Podcast iOS isn't Apple-like either - but that's another rant.
Thanks, this worked for me as well!
Been having this issue with the latest version of iTunes (11.1.5) and microview's solution still does the trick. 🙂

This is what worked for me :
1-Turn wifi off or disconnect internet connection
2-play a video on itunes and when getting the error message ... select play on computer
3-Play a few videos
4-reconnect your internet or wifi
This tip still works.
