iOS 4.2.1 & Bluetooth Problems?

I am having the same issue. I am trying to connect my iphone 4 via bluetooth to my iMac. Can someone post a tutorial, I can only get the 2 devices to stay connected for 2 seconds and then they will not re-connect.

ok everyone we have got the answer, this is straight from apple tech support - just got off the phone with them. Bluetooth pairing with a computer and an iphone 4 is not supported unless you pay the additional $20 tethering fee to AT&T. Once you pay the monthly tethering fee to AT&T then your iphone will happily connect and pair to your computer and allow you to share your internet connection. So if you are trying to share your network connection over bluetooth with you iphone you have to pay monthly to AT&T even though the hardware in the iphone 4 is capable of tethering. The iphone will not pair successfully with bluetooth unless you pay AT&T the tethering fee.

Apple needs to rethink their strategy. Bluetooth connection to a Mac is NOT tethering. Tethering is connection to the internet via the iPhone. We should be able to connect via Bluetooth (like any other Bluetooth enabled phone can do) in order to do simple tasks like downloading pictures.

If Apple wants to hold onto the lead they created with the iPhone, they will need to loosen up their heavy handed restrictions.

As it stands now, I can't connect to ANYTHING with the phone's bluetooth.

Seriously, this is absolutely pathetic.

My iphone 3g paired perfectly with my 2007 BMW 318d. However after an update to iOS 4.1 and then iOS4.2.1 it just won't pair with the car (or anything else).

Have scoured the internet for a solution and tried everything. ****** thing just won't work. Keeps searching for connections but finds nothing.

Apple really needs to fix this.

Was thinking of getting the new iPhone 4, but after this all respect lost for Apple. They are the new MS!

Try deleting the device from the Bluetooth settings on the iPhone. Then set the headset in Pairing mode (which is not the same as turning it on), go to the Bluetooth settings on the phone and the headset should appear in a few seconds.

Apple doesn't think so, and apparently the market (meaning consumers) don't think so either, as they continue buying iPhones as fast as they can be manufactured.

Have you put the previous bluetooth device in pairing mode? This is a special mode that you must select; it is not the same as just turning it on. A new device will automatically go to pairing mode when you turn it on, but one that has been previously paired will not.

You will need the manual for the earphone (or the manufacturer's web site) to determine how to put it in pairing mode. All earphones do it differently. Usually it involves holding one of the buttons for several seconds, or pressing 2 simultaneously. On my BlueAnt Q2 it accepts the voice command "pair me".

Well let me start by saying this. I am having the same issue as everyone else with my iPhone 4G and the iOS Bluetooth B.S. that goes along with it. My previous iPhones worked great with my Infiniti QX56 and the 4G will not. It cuts in and out and blah blah blah. I am sick as $hit of this. Infiniti's Bluetooth department said they could do nothing as Apple keeps changing too much between every bloody iOS update and that they are trying to come to some sort of resolve. This is the same story for my wife's car and so on. Apple is heading in a very bad direction and this one is going to cost them.

I have read some people on here referring to Apple not having any serious issues as they continue to reach record levels of sales. Well that is an easy one to answer. If you are any sort of professional that has worked on Mac's from the first version of PS to the latest version of AE or FCP, then you would hold Apple to very high standards You could do this without fear because you knew that they were listening to their customers and meeting our their every time. Now they are a big enough Dinosaur that listening is no longer perpetuating, in fact it's just plain expensive. For this group of us we look at Apple's moves of recent to be a disgrace. A complete collapse in the intrinsic corporate culture that has provided one of the most sound platforms from which to operate from.

For those of you that don't fit in this group, you are coming from the land of the PC's or better yet, Microsoft. While trying not to insult, frankly, your not that hard to impress! Apple knows this and is taking it all the way to the BANK!

So throw out your BMW I will trash my Infiniti, but what ever you do don't tell Apple to shove the iphone 4G and its Bluetooth up their rosy rear end ...

hi guys,

i am one of those who using the Iphone 3GS for internet theathering. before recent upgrade to iOS4.2.1 firmware, my phone work well with my ThinkPad laptop with Window XP pro. however once i done the upgrade, the bluetooth seems to connect with my iphone but can't acquire secure connection and negotiate with the internet DNS and IP.

my phone screen shows "Theathering" but no internet connection. If i use a USB connection, then it is o.k.

anyone can share some tips to resolve this or it is definately a bug from the new firmware and wait for the new release???

Similar Bluetooth problem with my devices.
Before updating to 4.2.1 on my iPod Touch 4 g., I had no problems.
Connecting my SE Experia mini pro and iPod Touch to my brilliant headset
(Philips SHB9000) worked great. Listen to music and still be able to receive and answer my calls
Unfortunatly the update messed it all up. Now I can only connect 1 device at a time.
I have tried pairing both devices to headset with no results. Both devices see the headset yet only 1
will connect.
Is downgrading the OS to previous version possible?
