iOS 4.2.1 & Bluetooth Problems?

Have any of you experienced problems with iOS 4.2.1 recognizing your bluetooth device? I have 2 bluetooth headsets, and my iPhone 4 will not find the connection. It says it is searching, but continues to "search" without finding the devices and I have made sure they are turned on as well.

iPhone 4, iOS 4, updated to 4.2.1

AudiA6 –
To solve your voicemail problem try prefixing the voicemail number with the country code (e.g. for Vodafone UK change 121 to +44121). This has been suggested as a fix earlier and some people have reported success.

Regarding your contacts list thing – make sure you delete the phone in the car and “forget” the car from the phone. Then reset network settings. Then repair.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I can’t even get my iphone3g to pair with my car any longer. It just can’t find ANY Bluetooth device. Before the update it could happily pair with my car. Any suggestions welcome!

I to am having the same problem with my Toyota car kit. I also cannot access my voicemail now thru the car kit and when my phone is connected to the carkit it has started to drop calls in the middle of a conversation. Everything was fine til I updated to 4.2.1 iOS. There is obviously a problem with the software update which I hope apple wil fix soon.

Me too. Iphone4 worked perfectly in my car b4 I updated software to ios4.2.1. Now cannot hear voice mail thru carkit and dropped calls again only on car kit. There is some sort of bug in software update. C'mon apple get it sorted or I will have to leave apple because I drive for a living and Bluetooth needs to work so I wil have to get a phone that works.

I tried everything. Deleting phone from carkit and repairing. Soft and hard resetting phone. Restore as new on phone. Same problems. I also have a Bluetooth headset and I have the same issues wit that as well. Like I said everything was perfect til I did the update. I no I'm not addressing apple. I rang them but they weren't much help.

This is the first time i have written on any forum, due to total frustration I have made an effort to do so.

There is definately something wrong with iOS 4.2.1 version. my blue tooth connection with 2010 Audi worked fine until I updated my Iphone 4 to the latest version. Now my Iphone will not sync contacts, missed & dialed calls anymore. it will pair and I can make calls, however no names come up on display and I have to resort to dialling from my Iphone making my speech recognition feature in Audi useless.

1. I have tried _all the suggestions in this forum multiple times_ to no avail.
2. I have tried my wifes Iphone 3G with older version software and it works perfectly with my Audi A4
3. I have tried a motorola blur and it works perfectly with my Audi A4.

Someone help me please!

I am having problems pairing my new '11 F150 Ford truck, same issues either it shows being paired but will not send or recieve calls or it continually disconnects. I am using the most current software version on my i-phone 4. The strange thing is that I just traded in my '09 F150 and the phone worked fine with a similar nav system and the same phone software. The Ford dealer is telling me that there is a conflict between the Mirosoft based SYNC software and Apple i-phone software and they don't have any idea what to do about it!

I managed to connect my iPhone 4 w/ 4.2.1 to my Sony Vaio laptop by opening an "incoming" com port under bluetooth settings (on the laptop side of course). I've never had to do that with any other bluetooth device, but it worked.

However, I CANNOT connect my iPhone to my wife's MacBook of all things. I think there is something quite fouled up with Apple's bluetooth script on 4.2.1.

I have what I think is a related problem:

I have a Kenwood DDX-8024BT headunit in my car & an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1, (not jailbroken or messed about with)

The headunit and phone have paired OK, and I can make and recieve phone calls via the headunit.

The issue is when I try and stream audio from the phone to the headunit. Everything starts fine, but then I start to get random momentary losses of audio. It comes back immediatly, and is ok again until the next random dropout.

This continues for as long I'm streaming audio.

I've tried the following:

Updating the BT firmware on the headunit to the latest from Kenwood
Deleting the BT profiles on both the phone and the headunit, and re-pairing them after the S/W update
Reseting the network settings on the phone
Factory reset of the headunit, and a home button + power off on the phone
I've also re-paired them and tried again several times.

None of them have had any effect.

So - is there anything else I can try? To be honest, I've had the same issue since I upgraded to my iPhone 4 with straight iOS4.0, but it used to work perfectly with my old 3G.

I have used a Bluetooth keyboard with my Windows Pocket PC devices for almost ten years. Makes notetaking in meetings and lectures and e-mail composition a doddle. Still amazed that more people don't use folding keyboards.

So, I delayed buying an iPhone until it supported an external keyboard. Initially, I was amazed at how much more reliable the Bluetooth connection was with the iPhone on v4.0 software than my previous Windows devices. It was also quite nice having a phone that was actually able to make and receive calls unlike my Windows Mobile Touch HD which took so long to respond to the answer call button that I often missed the call.

My new iPhone also initially paired seamlessly with my Parrot Mki9200.

Unfortunately, the Bluetooth connection has become less reliable. The iPhone only connects with the car audio system occasionally and similarly using the keyboard is hit and miss.

I have found that if I go into Settings, turn the Bluetooth off and then on again, it usually re-establishes the connection and this then lasts for quite sometime. Sometimes, I switch the phone in and out of Airplane mode and that also helps. This is a pain when just wanting to use the keyboard for a quick text message but less annoying when at the start of a 2 hour long meeting!

Might be solved when the iPhone 4G is released in June...

I have the same issue with my iPhone 4 and the PTI in my model year 2008 Discovery 3. Voicemail refuses to route audio over bluetooth (though it displays dialling on the head unit), incoming calls rarely route audio via car. All outgoing calls (except voicemail) route audio correctly.

This has only happened since 4.2.1

All previous iOS versions had worked perfectly, including phone book, last dialled etc all accessible on the head unit.

Tried all the reset, delete pairing etc tips. No change.

There is no way to delete the iPhone 4 from the head unit though.

I have the same problem with my Iphone 3 since I did the update to 4.2.1. I deleted the device on the phone, now can't even pair! My wife has an Audi also, and I can't connect to that either.
I went to the Apple Genius Bar who said that the car kit will need a firmware update, and sent me on my way. I contacted Audi, who said Apple have stuffed something in the update. Worked perfectly until the update so I guess will have to wait for a fix from Apple??
