Facetime Registration Problem
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.5)
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.5)
Unsure why, but the above solution isn't working for me either. I did have extra entries in my hosts file which I put there, but removing them, flushing the cache and even restarting doesn't fix my facetime problem.
For completeness I am referring to this error:
"The server encountered and error processing registration. Please try again later."
Which occurs after I log in successfully and then choose an email address to associate with the account - I am then returned to the log in screen shown above, along with the error.
This is using a fresh installation of Lion with a brand new admin user account.
Facetime 1.1 is part of Lion and cannot just be 'deleted' without using terminal.
Even if you do delete it, you cannot download a new version since the Mac App Store only offers version 1.0.2
The official feedback page - http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html does not yet include Lion - OS X 10.7 as an option. It only includes Snow Leopard 10.6.7 and 10.6.8
If you are a registered developer you can file a bug report via http://bugreporter.apple.com
Previous solutions offered on the discussion boards involving either deleting certificates or plist files are not relevant anymore and will not work. This is a new issue and will probably be fixed by either a new version of Facetime appearing in the Mac App Store, or an OS X system/security update.
To anyone thinking of completely reinstalling their version of Lion, please think again. It will probably not solve the problem, and if Facetime not working is the only problem you are encountering, then it is definitely not worth it. The phrase 'Sledgehammer to crack a nut' springs to mind 🙂
As a 1st day release, there are bound to be some issues!
You can guarantee that Apple know about them, and are dealing with them as we speak, so just hang in there, and a fix will arrive very soon.

Hi,
The answer posted here as the "Fix" appears to come from this thread
I would also check DNS server info in System Preferences > Network > Advanced button > DNS tab
(Try adding a public one such as 8.8.4.4)
This thread suggests there are issues with long email names and certain endings.
Realistically more info may be gained from others having similar problems by looking in this community:-

Umm,
FaceTime requires just 128kbps to video (It is only One on One and the camera does not produce that many pixels for the Frame and the processor on the phone cannot deal with too many frames)
Note 6 on the bottom of this page says only "Broadband" (Broadband is supposed to be an internationally agreed standard of 256kbps both up and down as a minimum but no-one sticks to it and often claim anything faster or not using Dial-up is Broadband)
Your Apple Time Capsule or Base Station will cope with almost any speed your ISP can shove at it.
Not all ISPs will offer the same upload speed as download but you can find services in some places that are 10s of mbps.
Wifi is rated at 54Mbps (were are talking megabits) which should be sort of equal to around 6.5MBps (ish) (Megabytes). One Source
640 X 480 is a pic of 0.3mp (megapixels)
The 720 X 480 might get to 0.35mp
Although there is still the conversation from mega Pixels of data into actual data rates Times frames I don't see this getting to the 1Mbps upload you are talking about.
A Page that you found that info on would be handy.

Hi,
As the com.apple.imagent.plist was present it means IMAgent has been launched at least once.
If it was working but is not now the mostly likely cause was going to a corrupt .plist.
There are a couple of more thing you could try.
One is to Open Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) and select the Boot Drive and then the First Aid tab if not select and Repair Permissions.
This will not alter the ownership of files in your Home Folder but may sort out issues elsewhere.
Another is to try a PRAM reset.
Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD ( or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
Next I would try a SMC/PMU reset for your computer type
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If those don't work I would then download and Install the COMBO version of OS Update you are up to (i.e. OS X 10.6.8) and run it over the top of what you have.
It will reinstall all the bits that have been updated since OS X 10.6 came out and "Correct" anything that has become corrupt. As FaceTime has been updated at least once since it came out this should help.
If we could be more specific about where the issue actually is then you could use Time Machine to "Restore" the app or the .plist or even the Support App IMAgent to "fix" the issue.

The first time that I used Facetime on my Mac it worked perfectly fine.. that was right after I installed it.. but ever since, i have not been able to log in. My Apple ID and password are correct but it keeps telling me that the server encountered an error processing registration and to please try again later but it still won't work. What do i do?

Mine did the EXACT same thing. I shut everything down... restarted.... no change. I even deleted the FaceTime app and reinstalled it. I Still can't get it to work.
Help anyone?
im in the same boat as sadi on Lion (10.7) i get no iphone device CA in keychain access and i still cant get around the "the server encountered an error processing registration please try later" error . any help would be great
Having the same issue, which is apparently somewhat rampant (confirm via Google). I've moved all certs out of the keychain. None of the above suggestions work. Would love an official response here from Apple.
I thought I was the only one who had this issue. I have spent half an hour on a cycle of deleting and recovering my facetime. APPLE plz, you just made facetime a default app for mac osx and it stops working on release day. What a shame!
I'm also encountering this problem. Facetime worked fine for me in Snow Leopard on my MBP but won't work now that I've installed Lion. The Keychain I'm told to delete does not exist. My router is a 802.11n Airport Extreme with up-to-date firmware.
And you've of course verified this works, right? Please don't bother if you have nothing helpful to add. Not clean installing Lion because (a) it's not possible, (b) it's ridiculous to nuke and pave for an application error.
Of course it worked for my MBP 15" mid 2010.
a) Clean installing Lion is possible. After downloading Lion, I restored the setup file to a 5GB partition and did my clean installing from it.
b) There is another solution:
Delete the Certificates: " issued by Apple Iphone Device CA " in Keychain Access/ Login/ Certificates.
But this one didnt work for me. It worked for someone else.
So I end up with the clean installing, because I need it to chat with my family everyday.
