ITUNES APP STORE WITHOUT A CREDIT CARD WITH EXISTING APPLE ID

Hey,

I've been trying to create a free itunes app store account. First I read the instructions in this link : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534, but the link shows how to create a new account, the problem is that I already have a Apple ID.

On the other hand when I try to sign in in the app store with my existing Apple ID, I get the message "This Apple ID has not yet been used with the iTunes Store please review your account information" with two options "cancel" and "review".

Clicking in review, I go to the page with the terms of service, continuing I go to a page where I have to type my email, my password, question and answer for the password and my birth date. The email field has the email that is being used with my current Apple ID, and the password field has the password of my existing Apple ID. The other fields are blank. Completing them, and clicking in next I go to the payment options page, but there's no "none" option, so I can't make a account withou using a credit card.

Is there a way to create a itunes app store without a credit card with my existing apple ID, or a I have to create a new one ?

The problem has been fixed with ios 5.1. Download itunes on your computer if you dont have it. Then just plug your ipod touch ( or whatever device you have) and itunes will automatically ask you if you want to update. click download and update then just sit back and wait for it to complete then follow the rest of the on-screen instructions. This update fixed this problem for me after i was running ios 4.1.

P.S. u have to have 3rd or 4th gen ipod for this update

Why fix it when they can harvest data in a slightly unethical way with the get out clause of “it’s a bug”. It’s not a bug, it’s been reported and clearly documented on here for 2 years, and not “fixed”. In any case why should it be any different from the other sign up processes? Other than people with an apple login but no itunes account fit a different marketing demographic.

Maybe I’m wrong but can anyone think of any other reason why this is like this?

Shame on you Apple.

Chaps,

I just spent much of a morning messing around with this, and I feel I should inform you that this DOES work - but it's not easy. Here's what I did...

1. Signed up for a new Apple ID for my Mum (to whom I have given my old iPad).

2. Signed out of my Apple ID in Settings -> App Store, then signed into hers. Pressed 'review' (re payment et c.).

3. Tried to select 'none' as payment method, only to be confronted with the problems listed above (i.e. that 'none' did not exist).

4. Googled, experimented, cursed.

5. See 4.

* 6. Used iTunes (10.6.0.40) to UPDATE iOS from 4.2.1 to 5.1.

7. Enabled iCloud in the iOS 5 setup, signing in with the new ID.

8. Went to the App Store thereafter, tried to download a free app; got taken to the payment review section so beloved of §2 and countless comments above on this thread... and could suddenly select 'none'!

No idea why this worked, but it did. As such, if upgrading is an option for any of you (or indeed, probably restoring from backup, if you signed out of your Apple ID before creating the backup), give this a try.

Good luck - may you spend less time swearing, and more time downloading free apps, than I.

Ok, Chris. I have been reading thread after thread about how to remove a credit card from an EXISTING account. I have an Iphone 4 running the newest OS and a MacBook Pro running the newest version of itunes. When I tried to download an update this morning I was prompted to update my billing info. So after I entered my security code it said it was invalid. Knowing that my code was correct I started looking for a way to remove the card from my account completly. As I saw you mention earlier in this thread you suggested to select the "None" option for the payment type. After trying this on my Iphone and my MacBook I can tell you that there is NO "None" option to select. Please help

I figured out how to make a free account like 5 minutes ago. what you gotta do is on this site, NOT in itunes ON THIS SITE, make an apple ID. at the top of this form click sign in, on the right it says username and password. on the left it says, "Need an Apple ID?" then in blue, "Get one now." click get one now. then fill everything out. BTW it does NOT have you fill in ANYTHING about a credit card just your address. it worked for me, try it, tell me if it doesnt work.
