Is it possible to sort the Notes on my iPhone 4? Alphabetically would be great, but I'll take any suggestions. (I know I can use other apps - I'm asking about Notes specifically.)

Thanks!

PC, iOS 4

    In a word, no.

    They are sorted by date.

Thanks. In a word, dumb. Do you have a favorite app for notes I can sort?

    Nope.

I couldn't care less about sorting my notes in alphabetical order.

    Thanks anyway! Happy New Year!

Hey Bunny, just wanted you to know I care about sorting notes alphabetically!
And so do a lot of other people if you search the web.
And I (and many others) agree with you that it is dumb that Apple didn't do it in its notes program.
I thought Alan's response to you was unnecessarily condescending and felt compelled to add my 2 cents.
Periodically I search for a good note taking app to replace apple's inadequate product, and came across your note.

Well, thank you, kind sir (or ma'am)! I WAS feeling a bit slapped down by the Mighty Allan who answers so many questions, and I thought maybe I was the dumb one. L0L

I downloaded NoteMaster from the App Store for free, and it's working just fine. There's also a Google thingy I'm looking at.

Thanks again - you've mademe feel much better!

    Aloha!

He makes people feel that way because he's got 55K post. The correct answer was to provide you an alternative, because yes Apple Notes is dumb. Looks like you found the alternatives. Feel good and enjoy your iPhone.

    Bunny1,

Though it is almost a year later than the original posting, I too sought the answer to the question you posted. I also found Sampson's second response ill-mannered. I admire your restraint and decision not to go at it with him.

And I appreciate the fact that there are many more people in the communities who try to be helpful.

    Are you happy with NoteMaster?

    Best,

    JB

    I agree with you proofrock.

I would still prefer the Apple notes to have alphabetical sorting as an option rather than use a third party app, as I would like to continue to synch my notes (along with contacts, calendar etc) in one simple step on my iPhone 4S with Outlook on my PC.

This would be easier than using multiple applications.

    I've left feedback to Apple.

Before finding this thread I started a similar one which I hope will receive some suggestions:

Same here. It shouldn't be rocket science to add that feature.

I've gone to Evernotes. Extremely robust and well- designed. I am using the free version and have no complaints.

    Thanks for that advice proofrock.

As Evernotes doesn't synch with Microsoft Outlook which is my main organiser, I don't think it's for me.

I'm already running one extra non-native app (Ilium's eWallet) to hold PINs and other data securely, as Apple have not made this available, and I don't want to end up getting multiple synching apps, all because Apple haven't made those basic functions available yet.

Let's hope they address it with IOS6!

proofrock is just pitching evernote. but evernote is insultingly expensive in that they collect a monthly fee. allan sampson is arrogant and has no clue what he's talking about. it is possible. just not in one step. how many steps test your patience is another matter. but basically if you write a mini automating script to simply modify each note (let's say inserting an x in the beginning, then deleting it) starting with the last note in the list of notes sorted alphabetically in mail... then you can sync back to iphone/ipad however you sync. you may temporarily want to disable sync services while the automator is running (because of apple's inadequate programming of the script language) and turn it back on when the script has run its course an updated each note. so apple is absolutely deaf to user's requests for alphabetical notes even blind or dismissive to the fact that they lose clients to other platforms/phones as a result. (it's good to be the king)
