LOGIC 10 FEATURE SUGGESTIONS!!!

Sent out a music producer survey and here's a list of features we really hope will be considered for Logic 10:

1. A user interface overhaul
2. A massive core audio upgrade
3. A major improvement on audio & instrument editing features, especially for editing and creating custom drum sounds etc etc!!!
4. Far superior automation & panning features
5. Multiple mixer screen views and options especially waveform view in the metering aspect
6. Deeper range of color options to color code project/session data
7. More customizable options for the logic user interface like interface skins or ways of using custom gfx like logo's and custom color schemes to make ones logic user interface more unique!!!
8. More consistent and useful updates that add new features as well as improving older ones!!!

Much Needed:

1. Combination Sounds

The Logic Synths do not have the large combination type sounds of Roland, Korg or even Reason (Combinator). This is a much needed feature ... especially if you have thrown out your hard ware and purely using the Mac with logic and controller as your main board.

2. Ability to much more easily create and use the Libary to organise all of the Sounds - for both logic Instruments and 3rd party plugins. This will save a ton of time. We need to access sounds much more quickly.

I hope that these two request are incorporated into Logic 10

1- MORE EDUCATION!!! Logic is so vast and deep that masses of people give up on it early because it is so daunting. There are all these amazing tools from this great piece of software that most people have no idea how to use. The included manuals aren't enough. Luckily, before this happened to me I found the Apple Pro Training by Peachpit Press series books with accompanying project files it walks you through. I now after I've gone through the basic and advanced book twice (100 hours or so), I have a grip on a lot of its features and can get my way around and be productive, but have WAY more to learn. I wish there were four more books attached to the series because I'm sure there's enough info to fill these books, like how to wield the environment window. This could probably fill a book alone. Which leads me to..

2- MORE INTUITIVE MIDI EFX/TRANFORMATION- Why can't there be a simple way to put an arpeggiator on a midi track. Ableton Live has done this. It makes putting an arpeggiator on your midi track as easy as putting a compressor on your audio track. It's like they got tired and said "we don't want to program this stuff. Here's the pieces, you do it.

Other than that I think Logic is a brilliant piece of software.

If anyone knows of good education materials for logic aside from overpriced courses. Holla at a brotha!

You realize the Logic stretches back almost 20 years (long before Apple purchased it) and in it's day, the Environment was just the opposite of "we got tired", it was a MIDI laboratory where you could build anything from instrument editors to complex MIDI routings. What you want are the much requested MIDI plugins.

Here's a couple of pics from Logic right before Apple purchased it (Screengrabs of PC Logic which still own, it runs on an ancient 2gHz Athlon system. An Instrument editor and the Arrange Window.

There's no mistaking it for any other program than Logic.

please assure us that we will be able to try a demo or the Logic Pro 10 app out on the Apple Stores machines before buying it online at the Mac App Store at the time of its release and provide trained knowledgeable Apple Sore associates to answer any pre-sales questions. since there are no returns or refunds on the Mac App Store, we do not want to wait 6-12 months for things to settle in before Logic Pro 10 is installed on all the Apple Store machines via iCloud, automatically and effortlessly, seamlessly integrated, and available for in-store one to one training or the free workshops during the time of release so that we know whether we are purchasing a professional application or a disguised glorified Garage Band Pro like FCPX was a disguised iMovie from the Mac App Store. we need our purchases to be seen and tracked properly through the Mac App Store. please do not tell us that any missing professional features will come after its release. please make this available on disk at the Apple Stores and as an option to purchase online from the Mac App Store. please make sure this an professional upgrade or replacement for Logic Pro 9 professionals.

With all respect to Mr Pogue, he didn't really get that quite right. Check out this response to your linked article:

Also, you might be interested to read more from this Michael Wohl interview. He was the second person involved in designing the original FCP... and is now one of the main courseware authors for Apple:

Exclusive Interview: Michael Wohl (One of FCP's Original Designers) Speaks About Final Cut Pro X

Thank you for the links.

I haven't read the entire Michael Wohl interview yet, but he does seem a bit confused to me. For instance, he says this in the interview:

"It’s a little hard to say whether this software is going to be up to the task of a documentary that’s going to have thousands of hours of footage and multiple people working on it simultaneously"

Now, I have seen all of the FCPX videos he has released on Macprovideo so far, and here he is genuinely enthusiastic about FCPX. Granted, he has a few complaints, but most are concerned with FCPX stuff that may confuse old users, and he mentions a good deal of improvements over the old versions.

At any rate, comparing FCPX to iMovie seems silly to me and I don't think there's any reason to expect a Garageband Pro. It may be impossible to open old projects in Logic Pro X though and that will obviously be annoying, but other than that I think it'll be great...

I'm not sure what you'd like me to say... But I feel it'd be a good idea to read the entire interview so you can get a sense of his feelings on FCP and its future development.

IMHO, FCP X isn't a black or white, right or wrong scenario. There's plenty to be very enthusiastic about (as he says throughout his training videos at macProVideo.com) and some areas to be aware of where FCP X isn't yet mature enough to do certain types of work (and he mentions these shortcomings where relevant in the videos too).

It's a revealing interview (IMHO) from someone who has genuine insider knowledge...
