LOGIC 10 FEATURE SUGGESTIONS!!!

Sent out a music producer survey and here's a list of features we really hope will be considered for Logic 10:

1. A user interface overhaul
2. A massive core audio upgrade
3. A major improvement on audio & instrument editing features, especially for editing and creating custom drum sounds etc etc!!!
4. Far superior automation & panning features
5. Multiple mixer screen views and options especially waveform view in the metering aspect
6. Deeper range of color options to color code project/session data
7. More customizable options for the logic user interface like interface skins or ways of using custom gfx like logo's and custom color schemes to make ones logic user interface more unique!!!
8. More consistent and useful updates that add new features as well as improving older ones!!!

rounik music:IMHO, FCP X isn't a black or white, right or wrong scenario.

Completely agree. I just wanted to say that it's unfair to describe FCPX as iMovie in disguise.

rounik music:There's plenty to be very enthusiastic about (as he says throughout his training videos at macProVideo.com) and some areas to be aware of where FCP X isn't yet mature enough to do certain types of work (and he mentions these shortcomings where relevant in the videos too).

Indeed, but I think yet is the keyword here.

Yes, I agree. although of course iMovie and FCP X are based on the same engine, I don't think of FCP X as iMovie in disguise - at least not in a derogatory way ;-)

Yes, "yet" is the operative word indeed... as Michael explains in the interview it will take some time for FCPX to mature as a product and despite any current shortcomings it doesn't mean we shouldn't use it - but be aware of and wait for the changes. I think you'll find all this is explained clearly in the article by Michael. Personally, I agree 🙂

At any rate, comparing FCPX to iMovie seems silly to me and I don't think there's any reason to expect a Garageband Pro. It may be impossible to open old projects in Logic Pro X though and that will obviously be annoying, but other than that I think it'll be great...

I think Logic will definitely evolve into a GarageBand Pro type app, that is if it's to become a true Apple application instead of a program that still reflects the original vision of the eMagic team. It will probably happen in much the same way FCP X has been developed and released. Logic still contains some very creaky old code. In regards to the most recent updates, one an OS update (10.6.8), the second a Logic update (9.1.4).

Take a look at several of the recent posts on this and other boards. Things are breaking, especially with OS updates. Logic will have to evolve/devolve to keep up with OS advancements. Might not be next month or even six months... but soon.

pancenter,

Obviously you are Privy to Apples Logic pro 10 deployment plans. What else are you not telling us? If I were bound by an NDA, it would be natural to eliminate the possibility and to say to look at other boards and posts as well so I would appear to have no affiliation with Apple.

Not at all, I'm just a Logic user since version 2.5, no more no less. I -have been- a beta tester/trouble shooter for a couple of companies ( Steinberg being one) and I've had a MIDI setup sine 1985 and a DAW setup since 1990... so, I'm just guessing.

Sometimes I'm wrong, sometimes I'm right.

Try to look at it objectively.

It's not going to be Garageband Pro... exactly, but I'm -guessing- it will look a little more like Garageband than it does like Logic.

pancenter,

based on your assessment you won't have any issues or be surprised if Apple disguises Logic Express or GarageBand Pro as the new Logic Pro 10 title on the package? how is this forward thinking or honest business for professional users? then to add insult to professional users injury Apple will tell us the missing Logic Pro 10 features are coming later after they enthusiastically have our credit card info on file in the iCloud at Mac App Store and are guaranteed our money and payments for disguised inferior pro applications instantly is terrible and unfair business practice without the option to buy the optical discs online or at the Apple Store. the professional studio business will surely be adversely affected financially if we continue to do business ourselves with Apple in this fashion. what if after paying for the new rendition of Logic Pro X there is no external instrument plugin or external hardware latency control for .sdII, .aiff, or even .wav boucing or export and mastering because the market Apple is targeting is online media mp4 and mp3's? then we are told by Apple those professional features and educated sales staff at the Apple Store with machines loaded with Logic Pro 10 to try before purchasing first will come 6-12 months later after Logic Pro X initial release and no workshops or one-one training for 6-12 months. this is crazy we truly have no professional say in this matter sending Apple feedback or not. this is not Logical forward thinking. it is just like throwing our money into the thin air for no promises or guarantees from Apple.

Interesting if you look at what's currently happening with Final Cut X since release last week... reception and reviews have been awful and has led to Apple already admitting shortfalls (removal of pro features for example) and refunds already!

This after the huge anticipation and length of time it's taken to update. I'd say this could be a mixed blessing for Logic users... either we're in for the same treatment (watering down the software) or Apple will have to realise the power of the pro community.

I'd certainly rather they take their time and get it right, but I also think the logic team should have the resources it needs to grow and develop the software at regular intervals. If Logic were still owned by an independent company and they treated the software like Apple do then they'd be in trouble by now.

We live and hope...

No one really knows.... it's all speculation until Apple releases something. There's another thing to consider... if there is a major Logic update I'm sure it will be some of the overseas (from me) Logic programmers so that's a plus factor.

Here's the deal... when Cubase SX1.0 was released years ago.... it was a major departure from the highly developed Cubase 5. SX didn't have half the features Cubase 5 did. SX was a rewrite...based on Nuendo code.

Now Cubase is one of the most developed DAWs out there, it has a solid code base to grow from and grow into, releases and fixes are coming rapidly. Sometimes a rewrite is required for future development.

Again, all speculation, they may continue to upgrade bits and pieces of Logic, one module at a time.

Also, Logic 9.xx will not stop working...

So quit running around screaming the sky is falling, no one knows. Besides, the mods will recognize you as the paranoid-delusional that you are.

After all the down years when the pro community were the ones that helped a great deal in keeping Apple afloat. You would think they might be a little more sensitive to users needs.
