I did not read your last response correctly. If you are using WEP, use 128 bit and a 13 ACII password.
I had my router and AEX configured and then for some inexplicable reason, I changed the name of my network. After another couple hours, I started over with a reset. Hooked AEX up to my computer via Ethernet and then saved the old profile when it asked. I then went into manual setup and changed the settings there. Maybe if you go to manual set up and tinker with the network password you will get it. I was getting same thing before I did this - green light in AEX and no network connection. Sounds like your AEX is just not getting in the network no matter what the green light says.
I've been searching the internet for the same problem. I'm going to try it this week. Sounds so much easier than changing to WPA (which I tried when I first got my AEX and not only couldn't connect it but lost connection to the internet on the laptop (PC Win7). I hope this will work for me as well as it did for others. Have you heard of any internet connection problems when connecting AEX for playing remote stereo?
Thanks for being so clear in your responses. Too often I have trouble following the language.
FiOS customer in Northern NJ and this was the solution to my problem, THANKS BOB!!!
I had the same issue months ago. I gave up trying to use AirTunes because my 6-year old Airport Express wouldn't join my FIOS wifi. I found this solution you provided today. My Airport Express connected and I was up and playing AirTunes within a couple of minutes. Thanks Bob!
My AirPort Express blinks an amber light and my AirPort Utility doesn't find it.
What do i do?
I also have FiOS.
You need to go to the verizon site: 192.168.1.1 just paste that into your brower address field.
I don't know your user name or password, you may have to call Verizon FIOS.
Then follow the posts about the WEP 128 and creating a 13 character password, hard reset, etc.
tip; before you cahnge any setting in the Verizon site, do screen shots, just in case you have to redo.
Also, I suggest you use key chain to record your access info: site name, URL, user name, password, etc.
Hope this helps.
thanks it works now i guess, but it doesn't show up on the wifi icon on my mac.
is the AE supposed to extend the range of my wifi because in my PS3 it seems to have the same signal strength as before. and when i do airplay it sounds great but sometimes the sound goes off for like 5 seconds.
on my verizon site, the WEP64-bit is the only enabled, the WEP 802.1x and WPA are not. Also, the MAC authentication is disabled. is that how it's supposed to be?
Also, i'm getting an AirPort Extreme, do you think it wound make a difference?
I believe Airport Express may only receive, or if it can send, it is weak. Airport Extreme is a router and has a strong signal strength.
I checked my FIOS settings and they are: Radio Enabled Yes
SSID: my Airport Express network name
Channel: automatic
Security enabled: yes
WEP 128 my 13 code
WEP 802.1 and WPA: N/A
SSID Broadcast: Enabled
Mac Authentication: Disabled
Wirelss Mode: Mixed accepts 802.11b and 802.11g connections
Received Packets : number
Sent packets: number
thank you mann, it workss.
now, my airport extreme is the one that falshes the amber light. i connected via ehternet and did the setup, i want to extend my wirless network so i choose the option to extend it, but it stills flashing the aber light.
any suggestions?
Did you set up a new network on Airport Extreme?
Since this discussion is primarily on Airport Express, check other discussions on Airport Extreme,

Start over with the configuration of the AirPort Express again with a "hard reset". Hold in the reset button on the Express until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly, keep holding another 4-5 seconds and then release
Open AirPort Utility and configure the Express to "join" your wireless network. When you get to the wireless settings, choose WEP 40 Bit on the Express and enter your 10 character password and confirm
When you click Update, close AirPort Utility as soon as you see the message that the settings have been stored sucessfully. It does no good to keep AirPort Utility open because the Express will "disappear".
Wait 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart and with some luck, you'll see a green light. You should be all set.

I just want to thank you for this Bob Timmons. I just switch to Fios and had a hard time pairing my Airport Express with the Verizon Fios wireless router and the solution you suggested above worked for me. Thanks.
Quick question: I'm pretty sure my fios security is wpa. How can I check that and can I use airport express with with WPA?
Thanks
If you have a Mac, hold down the option key while you click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen. Look down the list to find the current setting for wireless Security on your FIOS gateway.
Thanks. Can I use the Airport express with WPA? it looks like most of these posts used WEP.
