Hello y'all!

Looks like I'll have to revise my experience with the update. The first few phone calls went all fine, but during the the phone calls of death have returned. Seeing that the phone is out of warranty, the genius bar is asking for $250, and the contract's up in december anyway, I might as well try a jailbreak and the mobilewatchdog solution as mentioned above as this seems to be the most reliable fix.

It's just a bit disappointing that Apple doesn't seem to be able or willing to fix this situation with their premium priced golden child themselves.

I am also a 3GS iOS4 victim with phone calls only lasting up to about 5 minutes after the iOS4 firmware upgrade. I purchased a new battery and used one of the many videos on Youtube to swap the old battery for a new one. I had a 21 minute phone call to my Mum on mothers day so it looks like the new battery fixed the problem.

I'm not sure if I can link to the particular vendor here or if that's against the rules but for the Australians here, I paid AU$14 to a local eBay vendor for a new 1600mAh battery with free delivery.

I am astounded that Apple would let hundreds of thousands of affected clients (judging by the number of visitors to this thread) stew for months and become Apple haters for the sake of a AU$14 battery. I for one will never buy another Apple product and will never recommend another Apple product either. Thanks Apple, it's been nice knowing you. Bye.

Howdy all,

It's been a while since I saw any traffic on this thread, simply because the notifications stopped. And it seems in recent weeks that I've not received any because Apple had unsubscribed me following their site update, so sorry to those people who thought I was ignoring you.

I'm still happy to offer advice on the reboot problem if people want to drop me a couple of lines via email. I've checked my profile and can see my email address still (I thought Apple had removed that too!)

Feel free to get in touch. If no-one can see my email address by clicking on my name/link then please post back so I know.

Incidentally, I'm now running 4.3.3. I have no idea yet if the reboot problem has been fixed by Apple, but the wireless issues experienced by many across the iRange is an interesting twist!

Jonty,

Your email id is marked 'private' in the profile. I think you can see it but not others.

Just to add something ti the conversation, I have had the reboot problem ever since 4.0, and vainly upgraded thru all the revs since thinking "surely something that serious would get fixed !". I tried Australian iPhone support a couple of times to no avail. They recommend refresh/restore/reboot/resync etc like any support organisation, but nothing useful, and don't acknowledge the problem. I haven't pressed them that hard or asked to go to management level. I've worked in IT support .. we're not talking Einstein-level people here. The answer to all hard questions is Step 1 - reinstall/reset the whole system, Step 2 - see Step 1. Step 3 - there is no Step 3.

Hi Neil, Greg, Paul, et al,

Neil, no need to be sorry -- you raise a very valid point and one which is very easy to justify. In times gone by a good few have openly shared details about a fix for this problem, but alas the details have been removed by Apple. Having read-up and performed a certain fix myself, I simply elected to offer details if people wanted to get in touch directly (with the caveat that I take no credit whatsoever). This still remains now, and all I ask is that people accept that I'm a busy fellow and will respond as soon as I can.

This evening I've spent time looking into this new Apple forum/profile wotsit and have made sure my email address is 'public'. Please forgive my brevity but if you would like details of a fix which is specific to 4.2.1 then please check out my profile and drop me a couple of lines (I'd rather not just paste my email address on this open forum in case spam is a result). For those running firmware since 4.2.1, don't worry -- I plan to update my instructions/details (the 100+ folk I've already contacted know how in-depth and specific my details are).

Finally, sorry to folk who may have posted and asked me to contact them -- please, please drop me an email instead. And again, I take no credit for the fix details I can offer -- as a mere 3GS owner I'm happy to share my experiences built on info shared by lots of other people.

Best regards,

Jonty.
