Low battery life on iPod touch after installing iOS 4 (continued)

Do a "Reset all Settings" and/or reinstall the base software as if it were a new iPod. Don't restore your backup. Turn off push notifications. Then you might add apps one at a time and see if there's one that's causing you problems.

Yes I always restore as new when updating any Apple iPod product. It's just a rule of thumb I follow because iTunes has a bad history of screwing up update processes. I've added another rule now: Never update any iOS prdouct EVER. Anyway, I think I have narrowed it down to GameCentre. I believe the trick is to log-out out of GC before you put your iPod in sleep.

Well if u really have to downgrade ur software put it into DFU mode and click option key+restore if on a Mac shift key+restore if on windows. Hope this works

Oh, and then a window pops up and search for ur previous software, should be in iTunes folder

Has ios 4.3.1 improved the battery life?

Anyways, I think a big issue for people using iOS 4 as far as battery life goes, is a lot of them dont know how to quick apps running in multitasking, and that retina display looks so pretty with brightness on full!

Wow, the drain on this is incredible. I did a restore and turned off push notifications + disabled ping/facetime. One of the Apple supplied apps is causing an overactive wifi connection. I'm disappointed in Apple. Especially since they no longer allow us to downgrade into a working iOS system.

And which Apple App are you referring to?

I just did a test on my iPod Touch's....
I got 10 days and 3 hours in sleep mode before I got the 20% low battery warning.

Wi-Fi = ON
Find My iPod = ON
Ping = ON
Airplane mode = OFF
Game Center push = OFF
Notifications = ON
Mail push = Manual

I haven't found any Apple Apps causing any unordinary battery drain.

Come on apple, the quick battery drain has been going on since July, 2010 when ios 4.0 was introduced. Are you waiting for a one year birthday to fix this mess. No mor apple seeds for me.

How do you log out of Gamecenter? I have never logged into Gamecenter, and it still drains my battery.

Goodbye.. Have given up on Apple ever providing a solution.. Moved on to an Android phone..

Does anyone have lag issues in addition to the battery drain experienced with this iOS?

I bought a 4g 8g 2 weeks ago. I still have my first gen and it works good it just isn't "stock" any more and hadn't been from the first week I owned it. The difference in it and the new 4g is like nite and day though. I was really disapointed with the batt. It was asleep and drained so fast when I put it back on it had the hot warning screen. I restored it as new and upgraded it to 4.3.1. Everything was fine for about 3 days. Of course all fetch/push/notifications were off. Guess what? While it was asleep I caught the battery draining again.
Lipos can be tricky. The faster they drain the hotter they get. I could see the cpu causeing some heat but not while its idle. I also have Netstat installed and didn't see any traffic. This iTouch is going back. Gotta wonder how many light leaks have been caused from the battery "puffing"

Yes - also problems synching with ios 4.3.1. The battery life is very short unless I turn off many applications.

TIME FOR APPLE TO FIX THEIR BUGGY SOFTWARE. NOW.
