Low battery life on iPod touch after installing iOS 4 (continued)

Do the following things in your iPhone, iPad, iPod:

1. Turn off push notifications.

2. Turn off Wi-Fi

3. Turn off Bluetooth

4. Adjusting brightness - dimming will help you to increase battery life.

There are few more tips to follow. use it

Mmm, I posted in the father thread back when iOS4 came out.

Months later the thread forked but the the issue is still there and the remedies are the same and very weak.

Lucky enough I never switched my 2nd gen iTouch to iOS4: no folders but at least it still works!

Mmm, I remember when, as a mac user, I use to joke with some win or linux user friend and say: it just works :-(

Apple: Spend some time fixing this issue INSTEAD OF paying people to close discussions about it.

There is NO REASON for my ipod touch 4g that is brand new to be dying completely in 32 minutes.

$200 wasted.

It's pretty obvious with how many people this applies to that it's not an invidual base by base case and that something is obviously wrong, so stop trying to convince people other wise.

Positive...I'm a proud owner of a new expensive ipod touch. It looks very pretty, has many interesting capabilities...

and it dies in half an hour!

Since you are an apple employee and part of this battery user forum (disabling the previous battery discussion of ~150 pages, ~200,000 views), would you please advise us all as to what apple is going to do about the quick battery drain ever since ios 4.0 through ios 4.3.2 has been released. My ipod touch worked perfectly on ios 3.1.3 and the battery lasted three to five days of normal use without having to disable anything (wi-fi, locations, etc.) It has been since July 2010 tHROUGH April 2011 and seven releases of ios 4.x.xx AND NOTHING HAS BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED OR RELEASED FROM apple ABOUT ANY QUICK DRAINING BATTERY FIX. THE GENIUS AT THE APPLE STORE HAD NO CLUE ON H0O TO FIX MY IPOD AND WOULD NOT REFUND ANY MONEY

IT IS TIME FOR APPLE TO ADMIT A PROBLEM AND FIX IT. (CAPS ARE INTENTIONAL-YES I AM SCREAMING AND RANTING AND HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DO SO SINCE THJE IPOD IS USELESS).

And yes, I have sent a status report to apple's customer service, actually eleven of them. And yes, my battery does die in aobut three hours of being turned OFF or SLEEPING. And I have tried all the workarounds to no avail- the workarounds disable the many functions I spent $300 on the ipood touch.

the only way to fix this problem is to downgrade (see youtube)if you have had this problem for any length of time then resign yourselves to the fact that your ipod is now buggered the continuos charging and draining will have ruined the battery beyond repair i downgraded my ipod about 3 months ago down to 3.1.3 all heat issues have now gone but still only get about 12 hours standby out of it due to the diminished capacity of the battery caused by the excessive heat from the battery anybody who has had their ipod less than a year take it back and get a refund dont get a replacement

You are correct in your fix of reverting back to ios 3.1.3. However, the monitors of this discussion group delete any reference on how to go back to an ios that works. They say it violates the rules of the Discussion group, however, the monitors do not have a solution, nor do the Genius, nor the software writers at apple.

APPLE, LET US HAVE A LEGAL CHOICE TO GO BACK TO IOS 3.1.3 or

APPLE MUST COME OUT WITH A FIX OF THIS QUICK BATTERY DRAIN PROBLEM - ASAP

As an Apple employee, please advise us all when apple will fix this quick battery drain...it has been since July 2010 that ios 4.x drains batteries and eventually destroys the battery. It is apple's responsiblility to own up to the software glitch and fix it or advise us as to when it will be fixed. This will be the last apple product i recommend or will buy. It is now a wonderful $300 paperweight.

I have had my new touch for about 8 months or more and just the other day for no reason the battery just starts depleting very fast, does not even last 8 hours before it is drained. I have made no changes to my settings prior to this or downloaded anything recently, this just *****. Did a factory reset which made no changes. Lost half my apps because my computer could not locate them, now I have to re-buy them, what a con.

Hi All, well I had a 3G Ipod touch had a fault (even though it wasn't coverd by warrenty as I had damaged it) Apple kindly changed it. I realised that with the last firmware update I had been given a 2G but I wasn't worried about because the devise had been exchanged for free.

I noticed that battery life was getting shorter (5.5 hours in standby) this was making me frown.. I was going to have to take the device back! Looking at the posts I thought I had not tried any self diagnostics so the first thing I did was fully charge the device but switch off the WIFI. I then ran some films the battery lasted the 6 hours or so. My next step was remove everything Charge the Ipod and leave over night with the WiFi on it still had very nearly a full charge. I am now adding the apps back one by one. I suspect I will find a rouge app and if I do I will post the culprit.

So the only thing I can say is to anyone who has a battery issue it may not be the IOS it may be a rouge app or a setting looking at Joseph's earlier post I agree with what he has written

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I have a 2nd generation ipod touch running ios 4.2.1 (the latest ios that it will run). When I updated to 4.x several months ago, I experienced the battery drain issue people have been complaining about. Turning off push notifications for email and calendars did not help. Neither did changing the fetch new data setting or dimming the screen or turning off sounds. Airplane mode did work. But then I would often forget to put in in Airplane mode and my battery would die. Or I would miss email notification because airplane mode was on.

Here's what worked for me. I turned off "notifications" for the apps (3rd party apps, not the email and calendar apps). In particular, I turned off the "notifications" for Google Voice. Even when I was almost never actually getting a notification from Google Voice, having the "notifications "on" was apparently keeping the wifi running at full throttle. I did not have this problem before upgrading the ios, even though I was using the Google Voice app before the upgrade. Also, I suspect that other apps' notifications may produce the same battery drain problem.

This whole experience put a bad taste in my mouth regarding Apple. I think they could have easily researched this and made a general announcement as to the likely cause of this problem. I think my next pad/touch device will be an Android, though I'm happy now to have my ipod touch usable again.

iOS 4.3.3 seems to have done something good with the battery issue. I have been able to enable/login to both FaceTime and Game Center after I have upgraded... and this without the battery being totally drained over night. I was actually more or less fully charged the next day. On earlier iOS 4.x.x it would have drained the battery totally.

Finally something has been done, even though it wasn't part of the release notes.
