10.6.7 Freezes when attempting to run iTunes 10.2.1
I have just updated to 10.6.7 all Apps (e.g. Mail, Safari, Parallels) tried so far work fine except iTunes. Every time I run iTunes 10.2.1 I get as far as the window displaying correctly then within 20secs the machine freezes and is unresponsive to anything other than a forced shutdown via the power button. I have fixed disk permissions with the same result.
Anyone else experiencing the same? Any suggestions as to a fix?
Here is what fixed this issue on both my wife's late 2010 MBA and my own: Create a new login with administrative privileges and log into that account. Start iTunes -- it will work -- at least it did for me. Then log out and re-login to your account. iTunes will now work.
Probably that this set of actions overwrites whatever cache or file is corrupted. My guess is that it's a cache since preferences are tied to the user, not done at the root level
Same problem for me as well. Reinstalled iTunes still didn't work. Took computer into Apple store to Genius bar - no problem with computer. The tech said to reinstall Leopard - did not work, same problem. It a bug in 10.6.7 for MacAirs. The update was to try to fix a crash problem, which I have had. Now I have a freeze problem.
I was able to fix the problem temporarily by uninstalling FaceTime. This fix worked for 15 or more restarts, but now the freezing has recurred, forcing me to turn off the MacBook Air by pressing the power button.
iTunes always starts up when the computer has been started up in safe mode.
Just a reminder that Apple does not generally follow these forums. They are user forums.
I have opened a new bug report at bugreport.apple.com. I suggest everyone experiencing this problem do the same so that Apple is aware how prevalent this problem is.
My problem resolved after doing the following:
Deleted iTunes Library Extras.itdb and iTunes Library Genius.itdb
Opened App Store
Opened iTunes then quite immediately
Reopened iTunes and it worked fine and rebuilt Genius
I am having the exact same issue. I am running a new 13" MacBook Air 2.13 GHz, 4GB RAM, 256 GB SSD. Same issue with iTunes, the whole system freezes up when I open iTunes. Only solution is to power down and back up. Happened twice today
I have tried Jesseemm's workaround too but it only works once in a while. Not a REAL fix. I have tried everything under the sun believe me. Apple is the only one who can fix this permanently. Please call applecare and if you are a developer also submit a bug report. Apple need to know there are a lot of suffering MBA users... Thanks
I am currently working with an applecare senior specialist and capturing the freeze event and sending the data to apple engineers. This is definitely a real issue that apple is really working hard to fix. I will keep you all posted...
None of the tricks suggested here solved the issue for me- which his bad enough. However worst of all is the experience with the so-called "Apple Support". They are totally clueless. All they do is try to sell you a "Apple Care" package for some 50 bucks.
