10.6.7 Freezes when attempting to run iTunes 10.2.1

I have just updated to 10.6.7 all Apps (e.g. Mail, Safari, Parallels) tried so far work fine except iTunes. Every time I run iTunes 10.2.1 I get as far as the window displaying correctly then within 20secs the machine freezes and is unresponsive to anything other than a forced shutdown via the power button. I have fixed disk permissions with the same result.

Anyone else experiencing the same? Any suggestions as to a fix?

Hello,

I had the same freezing problem with iTunes after the 10.6.7 update, on a late 2010 MBA.

Various messages in the logs could be viewed as hinting towards extension cacheing problems; after having rebuild those caches, everything seems to be fine now.

I haven't tried very hard to understand why the problem appears for some, not for others; anyway, here's how to update the caches:

1. Log in as an administrator and, in Terminal.app, execute:
sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions
(you'll be prompted for your admin password)
2. Reboot

If those problems are related to a bad update of extensions caches, as I experienced after having installed the 10.6.7 update, all those tricks related to dumping iTunes preferences or repairing permissions won't have lasting effects: at best, they'll just temporarily hide problems by avoiding to make use of some features.

Moreover, a system freeze usually has deeper causes than a misbehaving application, which should just crash.

Could you try to re-build the extensions caches?
(see my post above)
