10.6.7 Freezes when attempting to run iTunes 10.2.1

I have just updated to 10.6.7 all Apps (e.g. Mail, Safari, Parallels) tried so far work fine except iTunes. Every time I run iTunes 10.2.1 I get as far as the window displaying correctly then within 20secs the machine freezes and is unresponsive to anything other than a forced shutdown via the power button. I have fixed disk permissions with the same result.

Anyone else experiencing the same? Any suggestions as to a fix?

MacBook Air, Other OS, iTunes 10.2.1

the bug is back again... this morning iTunes crashed again
the fix for me is always the same , trashing Genius.itdb.
Now i decide to disable Ping at all from iTunes prefererence and see what will happen.
I think this is not a good moment for Apple, iTunes crash and iPhone 4 drains battery in a couple of hours.
Yesterday after brought my new iPhone4 (ios 4.3) and update my MBA to 10.6.7 i experienced something near to disaster.
Still now as i can see nothing is solved.

This is a temporary fix only! It works but once you reboot again (after using itunes) you are back to deep freeze... I have yet to find a permanent fix using anything that these posts have suggested or any suggestions from applecare level 1 and level 2 techs have asked me to do. This is a serious issue and after 90 mins on the phone with applecare I think they are becoming aware of the problem. I hope the engineers can figure this out. Itunes is a hub for the Mac OS for most people, esp if you own ipods, iphones, ...

Well... you are somehow right...

After having re-built my extension caches (they really needed it) yesterday, I tested various patterns of shutdowns/reboots/iTunes launches, and never experienced the freeze anymore.

But your message made me doubt, so I tested again.
And I got those freezes again, yet in a less "reliable" way than just after having applied the 10.6.7 update: currently, iTunes sometimes launches without a glitch, and sometimes provokes the freeze, without a really discernible pattern.
As a result, I won't dare launch iTunes without being sure to have a ssh access to my box (yes, a clean shutdown is still possible thru ssh) until a true explanation/fix has been provided...

My apologies for having been too optimistic,
Axel

I was having this problem today for the first time and think I found the issue for at least my computer. I had hooked up two external HD (making sure I have all my old files in the correct place before I wipe one). I opened up iTunes to check a couple of songs and my computer froze. The I rebooted and opened up iTunes with both HD's attached and after 20 seconds it froze again. I rebooted another time ejected one of my HD's and now everything is working fine.
