Problem with the Update bug in AppStore with 10.6.7

Hi everyone,

I have also got the problem with the Update notification in the App Store, and I have tried everything, downloaded the Delta update and the Combo, but still the same problem. I have also tried the advised points in Itunes, payment set to 'none' and reset the warnings for purchases and downloads.

App: Poker HD free

Can someone help me please?

Thank you!

This is a bug that is now being reported by many here on the discussions boards, I notified Apple help desk via email and their response was not helpful at all. All the workarounds seem to only have varied results and there doesn't seem to be a fix. App Store app 1.0.1 is buggy. Removed it from my dock and now I have little faith in it as it stands. Good job Apple, pushing out half baked junk and ******* off the customer.

At the top of Mac App Store there there is a (1) on the 'Updates' icon, but none listed when I click it. Under 'Purchased' Xcode is listed with an Update button, but when I click it, it tells me to sign in with the account I used to purchase it. I have only one account. Have tried signing out and logging in again - still no success - any ideas or others with this problem?

Just had that exact problem.

Is the original Install Xcode.app in the Applications folder?

Spotlight needs to be enabled and the Install Xcode.app needs to be located by it.

The App Store needs to be restarted to reset it.

I also trashed the following but it did not fix it:

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
~/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist

The path is HD/Users/Your Account/Library/...
If the file doesn’t exist that’s OK.

Thanks ... Ken

Same bug. I start the App Store app, it queries the app store and displays the little (1) icon next to the update icon, then it hangs. Presumably it's hung up because of the Xcode update. My copy of Xcode is installed where it was put originally and Spotlight finds the Xcode.app in the /Developer/Applications folder.

No, it hasn't fixed the problem. My problems BEGAN with MAS after the 10.6.7 update. This bug goes a little deeper and isn't connected to spotlight. Trashing user caches won't work either. I believe there's a problem with the signing code apple is using for the MAS, either in certain apps or on their servers that code sign the apps. I've encountered a problem with MAS and my Apple user id password. It is seriously flawed IMHO. I've removed it from my dock and won't use it unless I need to and until it's fixed. Forget any workarounds, send feedback to Apple, they need a kick in the bum.

I have an Apple product for which I also paid good money. And it works perfectly. It has always worked perfectly. As has every other Apple product I have purchased over the last 25+ years.

So what is the difference between your experience and mine? Why do you have this issue and I do not have it? Why are there a few scores of folks having this experience reported by you here in the ADs and other Mac dedicated forums, but untold millions who apparently do not have it?

Might it be your particular kit? Could it be the unique combination of 3rd party software that you could have added to your Mac that I do not have and one or more of those 3rd party items is causing the issue? I do not know. But I do not have this issue and you do.

When the MAS was introduced with 10.6.6, tons of folks had an issue with logging into their Apple ID account through the MAS. That same ID would log into their account through iTunes without issue. That was caused by a 3rd party bit of software called Fruit Menu. There were a few lines of code in FM that messed up the MAS. If we disabled FM, the issues with logging into the MAS disappeared. Unsanity, the developer of FM, has now corrected their code and issued an update for FM and it no longer messes up the MAS.

I do not know what is causing the issue for you. I do know that there are far more of us without the issue that those of you who do have it, so I am inclined to wonder if it really is an Apple issue. It may well be, but it also may well not.

Just a few thoughts to mull over.

I am not the only one with this problem... Moreover, I am saying this, because I have always been a windows user and I have never got any problem with windows. That's why I am saying it's a pitty to experience such of things with a more expensive Apple product.

Now we have to wait for a working Update for the mentioned bugs, I am wondering how long it will take. Maybe some other one will come with a solution by the time...?

I don't have fruit menu installed, so that's out. I didn't have any problems with MAS on 10.6.6. Some did. My logic indicates to me there's a password/code signing problem here. As you would appreciate, not all software bugs affect all users. Past Apple updates have addressed issues/bugs that I've never had. I'm glad they fixed the issues for those people. You don't have this problem, that's good for you, but many here have. Does that mean Apple shouldn't fix this or at least look into it? No. Please don't dismiss the fact there is a high probability MAS has a bug.

I have been head deep into this and isolating all other factors and all roads lead to MAS. The one thing I have found out, my Apple id password doesn't have any digits in it, so when trying to view my account details in MAS, it won't accept my password because it doesn't have a digit in it. I've checked this in iTunes and there isn't an issue with my old password without digits viewing my account. My two cents.

Edit. Now an update has popped up for an app I haven't even downloaded.

Hmmm, I'm having an issue as well: App Store indicates that I need updates for two applications, but after installing the updates, the notifications are still there. The dock icon still has a little 2 as well, even after restarting the app. However, the apps themselves are at the correct version after applying the update, and they work fine. So, at least in my case, I'm just considering this to be an annoyance.
