Trusteer's Rapport Software

Bank of Montreal online banking has a pop-up window offering me a free download of Rapport which it says will protect me from online fraud and identity theft. I don't like to download any applications on my imac unless I know it is not going to cause me issues later.
Please advise.
Thanks
Linda

Hi Ayala

The wording of your post implies that *when* problems with Trusteer occur, the person afflicted should get in touch with Trusteer tech support. Please can you give some insight into how Trusteer Technical support are able to intervene with someone's Mac such that the problems caused by Trusteer software are mitigated?

Thanks

~Bee,

I'm inclined to agree.

All of a sudden I received a message when opening Safari about a plugin that was not working. Tried to find the plugin in Finder and couldn't so decided to uninstall. Instant solution.

This software designed to protect information on our computers ends up screwing up our computers - the irony...

I'm sorry Trusteer Support, but I'm afraid that you product needs further work on its stability.

OpenDNS is not remotely equivalent to Rapport. They are two completely different things.

You should not use Rapport. It has a repeated history of causing browser problems, and is of dubious usefulness. If you are looking to protect yourself from malware, see my Mac Malware Guide.

As for OpenDNS, that is simply a domain name server - ie, a server that converts a human-readable address (like www.apple.com) into an IP address that computers can use. There are some advantages and disadvantages to using OpenDNS, but protection from malware is definitely not one of the advantages.

OMG, if only l had opened Firefox 6 hours ago ( my other browser ) l would not have wasted my Sunday.

l Googled the right question...found this page.........turned off Trusteer.......PROBLEM FIXED. .in seconds !

............ l too couldn`t find the ****** plug-in, in question.

The problem seemed to be sparked by me inadvertantly downloading something called Genio ( erased hours ago )

Disk utility was no help........l nearly reinstalled OSX as a last resort...... so a sneaky Java/ Genio unintended

download caused it ( it was tagged on to some software which was supposed to let me whatch a downloaded film.

What a flippin, drag

All`s well now...l hope ! ( Not turning trusteer on again ) Thanks again

Just finished a chat session w/Trusteer chat. My question was where the Trusteer application is filed. It doesn't come up using Searchlight or Clean My Mac. No Trusteer Installation Log, either.

The chat guy, Yael, though friendly, never could answer that question in 20 minutes of chat. At least he was patient. He said, though, that Trusteer isn't a hidden application. But, he never could answer the question.

Even looking through the installation string in Console didn't show an installation location.

So, I uninstalled it. Unfortunate. It looks like a good application. Sigh.

Thanks to everyone for the posts.

Ayala,

Thank you for monitoring this thread and for responding to my comment.

My question was simple: Where is Trusteer installed on my Mac? Using Spotlight, searching a number of combinations of the name, including that recommended by your chat help, produced no files on my Mac, yet the green icon was operating on my browser.

I gave your trained staff over 20 minutes to answer the Q. No use giving TR any more time. Please post the answer here, because I suspect other Mac users would find the information useful.
