How do I stop the caller ID popping up when someone texts me?

Hi,

Just been given an iPhone 3 and am v frustrated as every time I receive a text the name of the person texting flashes up on the screen. I have worked out how to switch off the message preview but how do I switch off the name of the person texting?

Remove that person from your contacts. Then only their number will show.

You are not addressing Apple here but other customers, a bit of politeness may not go badly if you are asking for help.

You think a name showing up on your phone is "sharing personal information"?

And no, there is no App to disable that.

And yes, as you mentioned, you'll need to look elsewhere.

Before you buy, you should check out the caller ID notification.

I would also like to have a option to turn of the notification completely. The only way i have come to getting close to solving this is to temporarily turn on airplane mode.

As has mentioned (with link) a few times in this thread, leave feedback with Apple. Telling us users does nothing.

You can also press the "close" button on your messages which will keep the message as unread, but not be on the screen.
