I have asked this before under the previous Support system and was told that it was not possible. These accounts were lifetime things. Maybe this will change with the new format? I'd like to change mine, too.

Hi,

On the whole I would tend to agree with you.

I have several Apple IDs mostly from Trial Accounts from the .Mac days as they worked after the Trial run out as iChat valid names.

You can still register for @mac.com ending names (if you have a spare email account to Link to it).

My experiences of linking an iCloud Issued @me.com name to my regular everyday Apple ID did cause me problems with the email Apple then used to send me Notifications from the Boards (It reverted to my Apple ID email which is from a Dial-Up email account).

As the actions of some, if not all Hosts, does not fully tie in with the wording on the sign up page we will end up with this half way house information and advice.

Currently there is no answer that is going to make everyone happy, whether it is the best info there is at the time.

NOTES.

Consider starting with a new ID.

Remember that some threads are allowed to run and run to contain some topics to a limited number of threads.

In previous versions of the Support Communities/Discussion software people could award points in both Positive and Negative manners. All posters could "vote" on individual posts within a thread.

This led to people deliberately creating second account to "vote" on their own posts and in some cases attack other posters.

As a large support discussion board, steps have to be taken to discourage trolls which any larger community will unfortunately attract.

The current decision not to allow merging may not be to everyone's liking but does stop people creating accounts willy-nilly just to disrupt the purpose of the Boards and then join the accounts together to be more manageable.

At the end of the day Apple own the site, write the rules and pay the Hosts.

I just started a new thread about this same issue. Here's what I wrote...

In the past, I've been using my old, plain iTools (and MobileMe) user name (without the @mac.com suffix) as Apple ID. Later, Apple required logging in with your complete e-mail address (now with the @mac.com or @me.com suffix). So I switched to using that for logging into any Apple services. But ever since that switch, my Apple Discussions (and now Apple Support Communities) name is displayed as Harro Jansz1 (with the '1' behind my name), possibly to distinguish this account from my previous, 'bare' account. I have already changed the name for that older account, but am not able to change my name for this one. Does that mean I can't get rid of the '1' behind my name? I hope not; I think it's annoying and unnecessary at this point.

Does anybody have any idea how to fix this?

Hi,

The only way really is when someone posts here and one of the regular posters (or anyone who can report a Post) thinks the hosts should look at it or the Host happen to be passing through.

There seemed to be evidence earlier in the thread that the Hosts (or at least one of them) had intervened in at least one case.

I then "notified" the Hosts of a similar request whilst also pointing out I could see other request stacking up.

I can understand the frustration when what appears from the outside to be simple thing AND is apparently done on occasion, is not done for everyone.

I am reluctant to state what I think the Hosts criteria are, as the Login site does make it plain the name is permanent.

Also this thread seems to have been left to "Attract" these sorts of requests. (which suggests the hosts are keeping an eye on it).

Good Luck.

Please, if posting Logs, do not post any Log info after the line "Binary Images for iChat"

I wrote an email to the Apple (www.apple.com/support/feedback/) becaue it is not acceptable for me to create a new Apple ID. I never liked this username I only choose it because I had a quick question. I also had no idea, that this username will also be used for the developer forums. I really hope that Apple will implement a feature so that we can change our usernames.

It could not be Apple's interest that we all create several Apple IDs just for a new username in Apples Support Communites. I thought that the community should fix problems and not lead to new problems.
