"Netflix is currently unavailable. Please try again later."

Netflix is a blessing on the AppleTV. I've been enjoying it for the greater part of a week. Suddenly, while watching an Instant Streaming title... the quality lowered considerably. I paused the title, exited to the menu, and tried to launch the title once again (after checking my internet connection!) It did not try to load, it merely displayed the error: "Netflix is currently unavailable. Please try again later."

I exited out to the menu again, and noticed that the Movie Poster images while I had Netflix selected were not "Suggestions For You" but rather "New Arrivals." It had never shown the "New Arrivals" before.

I unplugged the power cable and gave it upwards to 5 minutes. I plugged the cable back in and tried once more. The Movie Poster images were back to being based off of "Suggestions For You," so I had high hopes. Nope, once I tried to select a title... the same error greeted me.

I have gone to the website on my 13" Macbook, and I have streamed Netflix over my PS3 console to confirm this is indeed an AppleTV-problem. Netflix is not currently unavailable.

I have unplugged the device once again and will leave it sit for an hour or more.

I am incredibly dissatisfied with this predicament, especially considering I will now waste a majority of my day-off trying to fix this error to simply enjoy a few films on the one day I can.

Thanks.

AppleTV 2, iOS 4.3.2, NOT Jailbroken.

I'm having this issue with Wings on my ATV2. I called Netflix support and she had me do the following, which did not work for me:

  1. Cycle the power on the ATV
  2. Sign out of Netflix and sign back in
  3. Cycle the power on both the ATV and cable modem

She had me do the cable modem because she said Netflix servers will be tied to an IP address, and if I try to connect from a different IP maybe the show would load. This didn't work for me but she said it has worked for others, so feel free to try it.

As it stands, I can watch anything but Wings on my ATV. Also, this person believes they have found the bug that's causing the issue to appear: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3286728

II started experiencing the 'Netflix is currently unavailable' message the other night. I received the message for everything I selected. Unplugging the ATV only partially corrected the issue. I could select most of the videos I wanted to watch, but not everything. Frasier has not been available for a few days now.

I also experience audio/video sync issues when watching News Radio. That is the only show that I have found that has the issue with almost every episode.

What is frustrating to me is that I can steam Netflix from my laptop, Google TV, X-Box and WII with no problems whatsoever. If the issue was with Netflix, I would expect the same behavior with all devices.

I have a theory that the ATV issues with Netflix streaming are due to fact that Netflix runs on Microsoft Silverlight.

So I spoke with someone at both Apple and Netflix. Both companies seem to be in agreement that the cause of the problem was Apple's recent software update not allowing the devices to reach certain Netflix servers where certain TV shows are stored. This is a problem that Netflix has to solve that they are apparently "working on" by moving the affected shows to servers that apple tvs can access. However, I was told all of this nearly 12 hours ago and the problem still has not been resolved....

I can confirm it is the latest update. I rolled both my ATV2s back to 4.4.2 and the issue resolved itself. I'll stay on this until I'm sure they've got all the kinks worked out.

Interesting associated issue - I'm having this problem with "Xena". I see the show in my "Recently Watched" list, select it, get the "Netflix unavailable", etc.

I decided to try to search for a different season, to see if it was having the same issue. Guess what? Can't bring up any results when searching "Xena", either. So the affected shows are vanished not only from the content servers, but the search database (which is kind of weird, but good diagnostic information).

Called in and let them know while asking for the Warrior Princess to be put on the missing persons list. 😉 They were immediately aware of the Apple TV issue, thanked me for the show addition, and made a note of the associated search issue to pass to the troubleshooting team.

Oh well, back to watching on my iPad.

Update;

It appears there is a problem with a few of the shows in my queue, one's found so far, Wings and Murder, She Wrote. Many of the series in our queue we haven't tried.

I tried removing them and then adding them to my queue from my computer but that didn"t fix the problem this time.

Went to try the restore of the Apple TV but Apple is telling me the update isn't available for download at this time (maybe they have identified a bug in it), so there is nothing I can apparently do, either with Apple or Netflix to fix this problem.

As of this morning, I am still having this problem as well which began two days ago. For me it is two TV series that are in my Recently Watched directory. "24" and "Star Trek, The Next Generation". I have reset the equipent and verified that the IP of Apple TV changed but the problem persists.

The programs can be viewed on iPhone, PS3, Computer,

Kinda annoying.
