Duplicate iPhoto events in iPhone/iPad sync

I'm getting duplicate iPhoto events showing up when I try to sync my iPhone and/or iPad. These events are not in duplicate in iPhoto itself. I have tried repairing the iPhoto database and it's file permissions. I have no idea why iTunes reads these events like so (see included screen shot). Any help would be appreciated; thanks in advance.

Hi all,

Had the same problem as everyone else. Played a bit with iTunes and iPhoto unsuccessfully until last attempt where I did 2 things:

  1. emptied the iPhoto trash can from iPhoto
  2. deleted pictures from the iPhone while it was plugged into iPhoto

After that, i closed iPhoto and re-opened iTunes and my event folders where back to normal and reconciled normally again. No idea about what exactly made the trick and no idea if it will last, but maybe you guys can try this.

Personaly, i'll now refrain frm reconciling my iPhone until Apple provides the fix.

@Harold...

Yes...there is....but it's time consuming...here are some steps.

  1. Call AppleCare with an active Serial Number for a device such as iMac, iPhone, iPod touch, or TV
  2. You'll need to get through an initial greeter and the first line support; you want to speak to an iAPP specialist. Not an iTunes person...they don't really take phone calls.
  3. Once you get to the iPhoto specialist...you'll need to provide the trouble shooting steps you've taken. I'd refer you to my earlier post on that.
  4. Once you've satisfied all those steps, you should be given the opportunity to speak with a Sr. Specialist who can contact Engineering. They should provide you their personal contact information and commit to return your call in X business days with feedback from Apple Engineering.

Be prepared...this process took me about 90 minutes and I had VERY buttoned up answers to all their trouble shooting questions.

Hope this helps...

Hello all.

There is another thread about this problem:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3023160?start=0&tstart=0

Another member wisely discovered this is a problem with merged events. There is no real solution at this point, but those who keep a Time Machine backup can revert to the previous version of iPhoto (9.1.1).

That's what I did, and my events show up properly in iTunes, and I did not have to play around with the iPhoto library. It's a simple fix until Apple offers another update.

Good luck.

I had all the same issues. Tried numerous things with using another temp-iphoto-library and stuff...

In the end I opened iPhoto (make sure iTunes is closed), deleted my iphoto-trash and quitted iPhoto again.

Then I opened up iTunes (with my already plugged in iPhone) and I could see all the correct entries in the photos section of the sync-menu.

Hope that works for you too!

What I basically meant with "numerous things" was the following step-by-step instructions I found here.

I translated them into english:

1) plug in iphone (quit iphoto in case it starts) and select "no events" in the photo-sync-section, then sync.

2) unplug iphone, quit itunes.

3) start iphoto while pressing the "alt"-key. create a new temp iphoto library (it doesn't matter where).

4) create at least one event by adding some (at least one) random photo(s) so that there is an event. after getting at least one event, quit iphoto.

5) open itunes, plug in iphone and wait until the automatic sync is done. then select just the recently created temp-event in your photo-sync-section. then sync. after syncing, unplug iphone, quit itunes.

6) now we want to use the original iphoto-library again. so start iphoto again while pressing the "alt"-key, select your standard iphoto library. after that, quit iphoto.

7) open itunes, plug in iphone and wait until the automatic sync is done. now you should see all the events correctly in the photo-sync-section and you can sync happily again.

And yeah, all those steps didn't work for me without the last step, which is:

8) close itunes. open iphoto (standard library), delete your iphoto-trash. quit iphoto again. open itunes (with your already plugged in iphone) and be surprised that you can see all the events correctly displayed.

As always: Hope that works for you too!

Gosh, I tried every single step and it didn't work. My event list was still full of the same duplicates. As tempting as it is to use my Time Capsule, I see warnings from various users. So, in the meantime, I simply selected "Selected albums, events and faces and automatically include NO events" on my sync page. Then, I painstakingly went through each multiple event listed...if it only had one or two pictures (or was listed many many times, I knew it was the wrong one. I only selected events that had the approximate number of pictures that i "knew" were in that event. (I admit some will probably be missing...in its own 'separate' event right now), but at least it cleaned up my iPhone photos for now and gives me access to the most important part of the library. Gosh, I hope they clean up this absolute mess quickly. Everyone I know is talking about it...and afraid to load their photos. For those of us who load photos regularly it's awesome to have these threads to know it's not an isolated experience. I can't imagine the millions of iPhone and iPad users who have yet to discover this problem but will the next time they attempt to sync!
