ipad app update asks for wrong apple ID

When I check settings, my correct apple ID shows. But when I do an "update apps", the wrong apple ID shows up, with only the password box available for input. What to do?

Thanks, but tried that already...no go.

1) In iPad Settings>Store>Apple ID, it is correct. That is, it is my correct Apple ID.

2) When I go to the AppStore updates (which show 13 pending) and tap "Update All", a window pops up with the wrong user. No way to change user.

3) Also tried to go to iTunes on my PC, log out, log back in as myself with my Apple ID and re-sync the iPad again. After sync, my ID is correct in the settings, but again, when I try to update apps, it asks for the password on the wrong Apple ID. Where the heck did it get this?

Same problem when trying to update an existing app that was downloaded using a different Apple ID, now I am using a new Apple ID. Tried Signed Out/Signed In/Reboot iPad/iTues Signed out etc. Nothing worked, until ...

I deleted the app and re-download it when signing in using the correct Apple ID. It's a free app so it's not a big deal. I guess this "feature" prevents a user from signing in as one user but updating the app as another user.

I was having the exact same problem and the only way I could fix it was going to the "Updates" section in iTunes on the PC (not the iPad) and when I tried to update, it gave me a message that it needed to be downloaded by the same user, but it allowed me to provide my new user name and password and proceeded with the new installation. I only had one to try, so not sure how well it will work with many applications or applications that have a lot of settings (such as downloaded books).

Is it an account that you or a member of your family have used in the past ? If the apps show up in your purchased list then you could just delete them from your computer and then re-download them under your own account id - re-downloading : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 . You could also delete them from your iPad (assuming that you've got backups of any of their content) and then re-sync them (and their content)

The way I fixed it (it had changed about half of my apps to my boyfriend's ID, no idea how) was to go into the app store, search for the app you want to update, click on the app and as soon as it appears full screen, click on the install button 'free' before it has chance to change to 'downloaded'. You have to be quick! The first time it asked me to log in with my ID then didn't ask again after that.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work with apps you have paid for, as it says '$8.49' rather than 'free' and if you click that before it turns to 'downloaded' it says it's going to charge your account. I've only lost about $15 so I can live with that.

I then went through my entire app library to check if any more were in his name and updated those too. So annoying but completely fixed now.

The problem is that you guys have apps on the ipad that were purchased with an Apple ID that wasn't yours. Apps have to be updated with the same Apple ID that they were purchased under.

Odds are you probably synced it to your iPad from the computer. If you have the app in your iTunes library, right click (ctrl click if on a Mac) choose 'Get Info' and you can see the name of the account that it was purchased with.

I am having the same issue. Apple ID is correct. Password is corrrect. When I go to update it prompts me for my password with the incorrect Apple ID. I have tried EVERY suggestion on this and other discussion boards to no avail. I did uninstall and then reinstall all of my free apps, however, I have several apps that I have PAID for that I cannot retrieve. It prompts me to buy the app instead of redownload. Also, when I go to my iPad and click the purchased icon, none of my previously purchased music, movies or apps show up. I realize that this is due to the fact that they were supposedly purchased under the "old" apple ID, but I need to know how to fix this.

My Apple ID has been the same since the first iPod came out. It was created as an email address, however, when I made purchases it prompted me with that email/apple ID minus the aol.com. For some reason when I did the ios5 update, it prompted me to set up my devices w/ an apple ID that had to be an email address. I used the same apple ID seeing as it was already set up as an email address. Now it is treating the apple ID that APPLE shortnened (without the aol.com) and the entire email/apple ID as 2 different accounts.

I even tried going to the iforgot (joke) page. I entered the shortened other username w/out the aol.com at the end and attemtped to have them send me the password (althought it is the same password). I entered my birthdate which it said was incorrect (huh?). I then opted to have an email sent to me with the password. It stated that an email was sent, but I have NO EMAIL.

I cannot get through to tech support for iTunes. I finally reached a representative for Apple Care and was disconnected during a transfer and now cannot reach them at all. This is beyond frustrating.

PLEASE HELP!

When you update IOS5 it logs you out for some reason, if your account dose not have @aol or @gmail or some other domain then your userID has no email associated with, when you try to login or reset password and have it emailed to you u wont get the email because they have nothing on file. I dont why apple did this but they did. The only work around for this is call apple care and they will send you to the group that can create a new user ID for you. you will then have to login to webpage on Pc and update your info email address and such. Then login to ITUNEs authorize your PC and while you still have those apple people on the phone make sure they activiate and transfered all purchesd APPs and tunes to your new account, Thats the thing right there because you can always get a new UserID but if you dont make sure they transfer the activated apps that u bought with the other userID then you will not be able to update them. Test everything before you get off the phone with thm. and your USER ID MUST have a domain on it. if it dosent your gonna get a headache. Hope this helps.
