ipad app update asks for wrong apple ID
When I check settings, my correct apple ID shows. But when I do an "update apps", the wrong apple ID shows up, with only the password box available for input. What to do?

You can take the following steps, if you have ios 5 installed (other ios should be similar):
1. Go to settings,
2. Choose store,
3. Tap on Apple ID: (on the right pane)
4. Sign out
5. Tap on Sign In
6. Tap on Use Existing Apple ID in the modal dialog box
7. Enter username and password
8. Tap on OK and verify your payment info - Enter security code and then tap on Done
9. Go to Store (in setting) again
10. Turn on Apps
That's it
Hi Amirmans,
You are a hero!!
I have been struggling with this problem since I updated to iOS 5 on my iPad. I have searched numerous forums (Apple and others) and tried numerous suggestions, including changing my AppleID and password endless times.
I could access my iTunes account on my Mac and iPad with the new ID and Password, but could not get a solution that would allow me to change my AppleID on my iPad so I could update all my Apps. And right at the end of this forum there is your simple solution that works.
All my apps are updated and my new ID appears on the iPad.
Thanks again, and I hope all those others with similar problems see your post. Apple should add it to their support pages.
Regards,
Graham 🙂
Did the exact things you said and it still says needs password to be verified. Can't update apps.
Same with me (iPhone) - Still asking to verify my password via mail - however I didn't reveice any mail. on the other hand, if I try to change my pass for this ID I get an e-mail immideately. Asked support already but no reply until now. I made a new ID an everything is fine - but I CAN'T update my already existing apps with this new ID ...
I'd be glad for suggestions.
regards,
m.
Im having exact same issues and suggestions so far havent worked for me on my iPad2 or 3GS (my MAC is fine). One thought, is it likely to be anything to do with choosing automatic updates, and therefore locking down my old id for 90 days?
This instruction should work. However, if it still persists in your case, my suggestion is that you should update your apps (with the same ID and password) using itunes. After that everything should set in.
I am glad I could be helpful
as I mailed before as GAP_ - meanwhile I solved the problem!!!!
actually it was a 'conflict' caused by a pretty old ID that I got afterI had registered my very first iPod beginning of 2000. as mentioned, problem was that suddenly I no longer able to log in with my recent ID - always I was asked to verify my e-mail, however with getting no e-mail back from apple ever... for whatever reason the mail address of my recent ID occurs in my oldprimary account. so what I did / and what I could advice to solve the problem:
go to: https://appleid.apple.com/en_US/ andthen look for: 'Not sure if you have an Apple ID?' -
try 'find out' - there you have to enter a(n old) mail address your emember that you might have used in the past to log in first time for any apple product you've purchased. then you will be forwarded to this 'forgotten' ID- and as it was in my case suprisingly you will find your recent mail address occurring as second or third 'verified' mail address for this old ID! only thing you have to do: delete this recent address in the old ID. then you can try you rrecent ID (in the app store or itunes) again and you will see: this time you WILL receive an e-mail after verifying your recent mail address ...
good luck!

Carolyn Samit found the solution:
Try this...
Launch iTunes on your computer.
From the iTunes menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Click: Reset warnings and Reset cache
Click OK.
(in windows: itunes / edit / preferences / advanced tab... )
Works like a charm...Spent four days looking for this answer...It sure was easy to follow...Thanks
Got about halfway through your instructions.....looked promising, then "security code" was rejected as invalid! Are you referring to the 3 digit number on the back of the credit card? If so, I caN't figure out why it is rejecting it; I'm typing it in correctly. HELP! This problem is really driving me crazy Can't update any apps on the iPad...
Yes, I am referring to the 3 digit number on the back of the credit card. Hopefully, your problem is resolved by now.
OH!!! Thank you so much, I updates my iPhone 3G to the latest 05 version and all my apps disappeared and I had conflicting Apple iD's, your step by step instructions were perfect for use on my phone, I am back in business thanks to your simple advice! Yay!! Thanks so much
Yogini, you probably have a balance on your itunes account. For whatever reason, Itunes couldn't process a purchase. Buy a giftcard, apply it to your account and then you should be able to download the updates.
To verify, sign into the itunes store on your computer and view your account.
Afraid none of this has resolved my issue. I still have the same problem
