"There is a problem with your device"

I just plugged my iPad (1) into iTunes to sync and it said there was a new software update available and did I want to install it. I said yes and the update started. After a while, it said there was an error and I needed to restore which I attempted only to have an "There is a problem with your device" message come up. I unplugged it and plugged it in again and the same error message happens every time. I contacted Apple support and they said the "hardware" still has 60 days of warranty left but they want $29 per incident or $79 for ongoing support and an Apple Store is 100 miles away. I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

I just got off a very long support call with Apple. They were really helpful and even came to this forum to see what I was talking about. This issue has now been sent up the chain to engineering. They are looking at it.

I have a possible solution, and cannot try it now since I am at work. Anyone want to give it a whirl?

Downgrade iTunes to 10.1.2 - olderapps dot com should have this version for you. Make sure to uninstall the current iTunes before proceeding. After that, put your iPad into recovery mode and try to proceed through the setup process.

Then, come back here and let us know if it worked. :)

I'm sure you can upgrade iTunes again once it is done. But I don't want to get ahead of myself lol

Well, I think my 'solution' is greatly flawed at this point. I had never gotten that problem where it said there was a problem with that device, and only tried to restore after I saw this thread. Perhaps the activation server is back up, but will not accept your device (that you tried to restore a while ago) because it has been marked somehow as being broken? I am truly mystified at this point. 😟

followed that Vorksholk but i dont get option to set up as new?

Ipad 1G 64GB Wifi UK

My ipad follows all ur steps until step 7.

Ipad reboots in DFU - Win7 installs DFU driver.

Ipad applies software/fw etc etc then verifies.

But it only wnats to apply the latest update which is what got me into this mess.

Reboots and then tries to access Apple Itunes Sotre then fails with the silly its broken error.

How do i set it up as new device like you say in Step 7?

The activation issues appears to be an SHSH blobs issue caused by downed Apple Activation servers. This article sites how the server is now back online : http://www.ihasapple.com/2011/05/itunes-activation-server-down/ .

Depending on what you have tried so far, the situation may vary from case to case. Most of which revolves around :

  • assuming that you have updated your iTunes to 10.2.2 (of which downgrading http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php and restoring to an older ipsw might fix non SHSH blob issues)
  • using alternative SHSH blob generations through Cydia as a fix, though this method is not provide by Apple and it risks issues in the future
  • exchanging your iPad and restoring from backup

A more comprehensive solutions guide appears over at http://jaxov.com/2011/05/fix-itunes-error-3194-21-1013-1014-1015-while-resorting -ios-4-3-3-stock-or-custom-ipsw/ .

the more I think about this whole thing, the more mad i could get....

I have bought a product and without any wrongdoing it isn´t working anymore......and the one who IS responsible for this is, is handling all these compaints with an arrogance that is making me sick.

I sit and wait, I paid a fortune for the Ipad and now I have to beg APPLE to make it work again...

I was always very sure my turn to apple and mac and Iphone and Ipad etc. was right....I am seriously overthinking this. I have warranty, i will return it to the store ....
