"There is a problem with your device"

I just plugged my iPad (1) into iTunes to sync and it said there was a new software update available and did I want to install it. I said yes and the update started. After a while, it said there was an error and I needed to restore which I attempted only to have an "There is a problem with your device" message come up. I unplugged it and plugged it in again and the same error message happens every time. I contacted Apple support and they said the "hardware" still has 60 days of warranty left but they want $29 per incident or $79 for ongoing support and an Apple Store is 100 miles away. I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

Same problem here.. i've been trying to restore since about 6 hours already.. and still nothing.

i've tried from Windows Computer and Mac computer, different USB cables, updating iTunes.. nothing works..

i have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen and i'm from Costa Rica!

i hope they fix this up.. would be hard sending my iPod to USA to get it fix.. and if i take it to the local Apple store here, they will take like 3 months getting it fixed..

Same problem with my iPad since this afternoon. Had called in tech support around 7 PM EST. They walked me through forced recovery, tried on two different PCs, disabling antivirus and still same problem. A Senior tech support claims he has seen this issue before and it was a hardware issue. He asked me try with different USB cable, still no fix. Finally he signed me up for a Apple Store visit tomorrow. I mentioned to tech support about this discussion thread where several users are experiencing the issue today and he still thinks it is some hardware issue 🙂

Wil check this thread after few hours to see if anyone has any luck...else a trip to Apple Store tomorrow

Everything good that can be hardware, but quite a coincidence that today many people reporting this error on every American (Brazil, Costa Rica, USA) Who can speak tomorrow with the support of apple, tell that many people with this same problem, I still have faith that it will be a server problem of apple, because I get upgrade, only JB can do that the screen does not leave the itunes that is, it can not activate.

I have tried force restore, and my observation is that the restore process works with software and firmware update completing. I also see a message saying "Your ipad has been restored with factory settings" and then ipad goes for a final restart after which the activation fails and I see the "There is a problem with your device" message. As many folks have hinted in this discussion, this seems to be a problem with the activation server. or could be a glitch in 4.3.3

My iPod Touch has exactly the same screen as the Slider's screenshot, and going into DFU doesn't fix it, i've been doing it like 10 times already..

it seems to do the "update" however right after the iPod reboots and start loading the iOS operative system.. bum! just stays in that screen..

i'ts getting late here.. almost 11pm.. ill try to do some research on google and see what i can find..

if i find something ill let you know guys!

cheers!

exactly what i observed after putting the ipad in dfu mode and rerunning the update, so now we just sits and waits till mr.jobs and co. see fit to either tell us this issue exists and/or fix the server/update issue

of course they may just fix it and not tell anyone and disavow any knowledge that the issue existed...lol

happy friday the 13th!

After some tries to complete the upgrade of my iPAD to 4.3.3 last friday using my Mac and two other windows PCs I can conclude the following:

1- Firstly I need to comment the /etc/hosts file line where gs.apple.com IP was statically marked, otherwise when trying an error message saying "Your device isn't elegible for requested build" appears.

This means that gs.apple.com host changed its IP address! And ... Who statically set this in the hosts file?

The Apple Computer! ... Yes this value come from the factory in the OS X.

How I discovered this? Well, I perceived this because I was able to complete the upgrade process in a two other Windows PCs but unable to activate at all.

2- With the problem "Your device isn't elegible for requested build"... solved, iTunes was able to transfer the iOS 4.3.3 to my iPad but was unable to activate it.

This is a SHAME for the Apple and its support service!!!

Here in Brasil the local support without know what to do, put me in a conference call with a US support guy supposedly to be a "level 2" support. The guy told me ... "I never hear this error!"

********! I dont believe that I was the first ****** user that related this BIG problem this fatidic friday at 16:00PM!!!

The problem is with the Apple infrastructure update/activation servers! Not with my iPad. I have no doubt!

Now I have an unusable iPad ... and the forum and google was MUCH more useful than "Apple Support"
