"There is a problem with your device"

I just plugged my iPad (1) into iTunes to sync and it said there was a new software update available and did I want to install it. I said yes and the update started. After a while, it said there was an error and I needed to restore which I attempted only to have an "There is a problem with your device" message come up. I unplugged it and plugged it in again and the same error message happens every time. I contacted Apple support and they said the "hardware" still has 60 days of warranty left but they want $29 per incident or $79 for ongoing support and an Apple Store is 100 miles away. I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

I just bought iPad 2 and was just preparing my iPad 1 to give my sister and whammo... "There is a problem with your device" msg on iTunes. No, Apple, there is a problem with YOU! Get off yer butts and invest some of that mega profit announced today and FIX YOUR PROBLEM!!! You're damaging your name.

If it's not rectified I'm going to govt consumer advice bureau to confirm that, in Australia at least, I have an implied warranty with this device no matter how long I've had it.

I am in the UK. I have an iPad 1 and used the erase option in settings to prepare it prior to giving it to my daughter. When she connected it to her computer today (14th May 2011) 11.20hrs GMT itunes launched and gave the error "There is a problem with your device. We're sorry, the device you connected may be damaged and cannot be activated for service". This iPad is not jail broken and was at the latest IoS update.

As yet I have no idea how to fix it.

Regards
