"There is a problem with your device"

I just plugged my iPad (1) into iTunes to sync and it said there was a new software update available and did I want to install it. I said yes and the update started. After a while, it said there was an error and I needed to restore which I attempted only to have an "There is a problem with your device" message come up. I unplugged it and plugged it in again and the same error message happens every time. I contacted Apple support and they said the "hardware" still has 60 days of warranty left but they want $29 per incident or $79 for ongoing support and an Apple Store is 100 miles away. I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

same thing in Germany. I wanted to reset my Ipad1 to give it away (have Ipad2 now) and I am getting the same error. Apple technical support germany told me that there is NO apple problem, they do not know about any technical problems with updates, Itunes etc. and advised me to change the connection cable or try to connect with another Itunes account, hahahaha...tried all of this before and it didnt work. So their final answer was, "its problaby broken and if I still have warranty I should bring it back to the store".... I have no words 😮

From France, I bought a refurbished IPAD 1 and I had the same problem :

I connect it to ITunes and then :

There is a problem with your device. We're sorry, the device you connected may be damaged and cannot beactived for service. We recommend you visit your nearest Apple Storefor more information.

I tryed on my PC (Windows 7) and on my MacBook Pro ==> Same problem.

I tryed withy 2 differents ITunes Store's accounts ==> Same problem.

As I unrestand, official Apple position now that it is a problem with OUR devices, not their servers. Eeven if my device was 100% working before reset and I never jailbroken or did any illegal things. Before yesterday I've updated iPad many times without problem (I've bought it in Dec 2010 and did update on every iOS release from my iTunes).

I am now too far from nearest Apple support office so will not be able to visit them next 1-2 months....

Guys, may be if all of us complain that it is not device problem and many of us faced it they will beleave us?

It's really ridiculous that we need to prove Apple that they have an error on their servers but they keep saying that it is a problem with our devices.

Same problem here in The Netherlands: iPad 1 giving problems after an attempt to restore.

Funny. After years of Windows devices, I finally bought two Apple devices: a MacBookPro and this iPad. The MacBookPro gave serious software problems for about half a year, then worked fine. Now this iPad is giving this problem.

Does Apple have problems with stability after all?

I just phoned Apple Support. After the usual answers (it's after 90 days, are you interested in an Apple Care Protection Plan, and the like), I restated the original question I posed: how long will it take before Apple acqnowledges they have a problem, and how long will it take to repair it.

It was obviously the exact question. He asked how many others have the problem. I referred him to this community to see the counter rising by the minute. He answered that it will take a day to a week for stage 1 (acqnowledgement), and the more complaints they get on their support line, the sooner it will be.

My suggestion: phone their support line in your country and have your complaint filed.

(He said repair could take 5 minutes to three weeks, by the way. But we're not at that stage yet.)
