MacKeeper is horrible malware that causes a "virus warning" to pop up in your browser that freezes the functionality of your computer until you force quit the browser several times. I'm STILL trying to get rid of it! You are misrepresenting your product and I can't imagine what you are gaining from hijacking peoples computers like this other than an evil twisted chuckle. Why don't you show some good will towards the "legitimacy" of your product and tell us how to stop this annoying malicious virus addware that all of sudden started popping up AFTER we did the free (except for the major headache of this software) download? I have deleted it from my system (which was a headache as well) and now I'm getting this popup which I NEVER got before this bogus mackeeper program.

The most interesting thing about this is that they are still promoting that blatant lie about getting a good review on MacUpdate (they say the same on their website). Here's the MacUpdate page for MacKeeper...difficult to see how they could have accidentally confused 1.5/5 stars with 5 stars...😁.

As regards the ethics of this kind of promotiion, well, nothing suprises me with these people. I'm not sure what good it will do them, though.

While Zeobit may get some success in buying positive comments, such reviews are likely to only generate angry responses from people whose computers have been harmed by MacKeeper. If the upshot is that MacKeeper gets more publicity through controversy, I suspect that will put more people off buying it than turn them on to it. I don't know about you, but if I read a review where even one person says the software had a negative effect on their system I won't go near it, no matter how many other people say its great.

I also wonder how many upset MK customers will get this email and respons with '...well, actually, now you mention it, your software has been causing me loads of problems..." 😉

You'll also find that ZeoBit "representatives" will go around to sites which MacKeeper receives negative reviews on, or on discussion forums where people advise against downloading MacKeeper. We even have ZeoBit representative(s) visiting THESE forums!

You wouldn't believe the effort they put in to try to get you to download their lousy product.

They also have a very aggressive campaign with adds on all kinds of sites. I was so fed up with that on a particular (photomaterial) site that I contacted the owners of that site, explained to them for what company (zeobit) they were advertising (I pointed them to this thread) and they have now blocked zeobit.com from their site! No more of their aggressive adds there at least.

Cheers, Bob.

I've been using MacKeeper for the last 2 months without any issues. My MacBook Pro was running very slow and after extended research I found MacKeeper and decided to down load it. Mysteriously after I ran it for the first time my MBP started running like new! Now, is that a coincidence, maybe (I don't think so!)... But every since then it has been running great!

My 2 cents.

Manolo.

Manolo: Has Zeobit contacted you and asked you to be a shill for MacKeeper? Whenever we see anyone praising the product, we assume that's what has happened, because that's one of Zeobit's many deplorable marketing practices. And when they can't find a willing shill, they make up a false identity and post what they pretend is a favorable review from a real user. Everything they do to sell their product is unethical and obnoxious.

How can I prove you that it is not them!

For starters, you can explain why your only posts are comments promoting MacKeeper.

Then, you can explain why it is so important to you to prove to us that you are not a representative of Zeobit. If we think you are, that shouldn't matter to you, you should just let us have our opinion and move on. Unless, of course, you are a representative of Zeobit persistantly trying to persuade us to download your "safe" product.

If you ARE a representative, know this: you are fighting a losing battle, and we won't budge. If you're NOT, then nothing to worry about.

Mar 3, 2012 8:42 AM in response to Victor Romero1

eww:

They did not contacted me at all. I was just posting my honest opinion and personal experience with the product. Like I said, I've been using it for a while and it has been nothing but good. I may be wrong, but I can only speak for my own experience.

Thanks!

Manolo.

And this is exactly what a Zeobit shill or fake "reviewer" will always say. Consequently, no one with a grain of sense will ever believe you are sincere even if you really are. That's the sad truth about advocating any product from a company as dishonest as Zeobit has shown itself to be. Even if the product were valuable, its maker is so repugnant that no one should buy it.

OK folks. I respect your opinion for sure, I was just posting mine. I am not Zeobit rep and I am not trying to promote anything. I just said that I had good luck with the software, thats all. Maybe I should've not downloaded it... Honestely after all what I just starting reading today, I would've not downloaded it!

Sorry if I came across the wrong way.

Peace!

You too Manolo, I hope that MacKeeper continues to be benign to you, removing it is a b****

If you are an honest user of MacKeeper, which, to be honest, I now believe you are, you are extremely lucky to have used it with no problems. You may still want to uninstall it (you know, quit while you're ahead 😉). If so, do not use the uninstaller provided. I hear that it will not remove the whole thing and still leave pesky pop-ups asking you to redownload. See Beware MacKeeper from Thomas A. Reed.

Mar 3, 2012 10:42 AM in response to Victor Romero1

Zeobit's own advice for uninstalling MK is:

1. Quit MK

2. Drag it from your Apps folder to the Trash

3. Restart your system

4. Empty the Trash

You won't find this in the app's "Help' — searching for 'uninstall' turns up a blank except for how to use MK to uninstall other apps — but after providing a fake email address I was able to 'chat' to an MK/Zeobit rep using the app's built-in support.

What they don't tell you is that after step 2. you get presented with a pop-up that tries to phish details from you. There is no 'x' / close dialogue box for that pop up. 'Control-w' returns a system error 'beep'.

However, you can simply ignore it and empty the Trash (step 4) and restart (step 3). I found that this removed all the executables (but still left some caches, logs and plist files).

However, there are a few caveats here:

I was running the demo version; I had not signed up for a Zeobit account (as the app strongly urges you to do when you first run it); I had not used any of the features of the app (some of which encourage you to remove as 'unncessary' system files belonging to core programs such as Terminal and Activity Monitor 😮 ).

I plan to run a few more tests over the next few days at varying levels of "commitment" to the Zeobit ecology and see whether things get more difficult or not in terms of removal.

BTW, folks. Don't try this at home unless you're prepared to take some precautions. I set up a quarantined OS, a fake email and a proxy IP address to protect both my system and my personal details from Zeobit (and interestingly, after downloading and installing the app, it will not even run if you try to disconnect from the internet 😠 ).

is it safe to download the mackeeper?
