Give my post above a read. This is a new and completely different issue than what you are refering too. I now see this issue cropping up all over the Internet in different forums - validating this was a recent bug introduced by Apple. Something happened several weeks ago (my guess is it has something to do with Apple authentication services - i.e. server side) that has triggered this issue.

One a much more speculative note - could they be tweaking things getting ready for an iCloud announcement at WWDC??? Either way, it is is a new issue that is affecting a small but significant portion of users.

I did play with all the settings on the clock and can not get the 1004 error to go away. I do think it is somehow related to their authentication services (which almost certainly uses a time stamp), so this may be part of the issue. Either way, it does not fix the issue and in some users cases it does not work as a work around either.

Had this problem too with a ipod of a few days old. Could download a few apps but after sync actions in itunes the problemen occurred. Then I saw that the clock in the computer and ipod were exactly a month off (that could not be a coincidence). What did happen here? Did I set the clock wrong in the ipod and did it set the PC clock with the sync?

Anyhow did set the clock in PC and ipod to the correct date (and month) and the 1004 error was gone.

As far as I can see a lot of answer to solve the issue of "error 1004" appear !!

Mine is another one! after to test a lot, except these who aim to install crack or whatever software that apple is not agree, I realize that my iphone time setting were in "Set Automatically" and for some reason I dont understand the date and time is beyond the current date time....so...

Go to Settings->General->Date&Time

and check if it is true...if ti is...set to off and set manually the date and time for you iphone....

after that go to appstore and update!!!

that will solve the problem for me!
