Had the same stupid error for a few weeks... every time I tried to download a new app directly to my phone I received the "Error 1004...".

The error is now gone because I restored my phone AND then reset all of the settings. I'm not sure if I could have just reset the settings first and been good without having to restore it. TRY RESET FIRST. I now have an iPhone devoid of all of my apps, organization, music, etc. Time to start over I guess.

Super frustrating. The infallible Apple has failed in grand fashion. Next I'll start getting viruses with no way of protecting myself because Apple doesn't get viruses...

This actually has a very simple fix (easier than reseting all settings), that has worked all the times I have seen it. Simple goto Settings > Safari > Then reset the cookies, Reset the Cache, and Reset the History. Now turn the iPad off and then on again. It should work fine now.

This works on my Ipone 4. Thanks

This one seemed plausibe to me too and worked on my iPhone 3GS. Much better that having to reset all settings (I have an especially complex email config with multiple accounts). Thanks!

I had changed my Apple ID recently and suspect that info was stored in cookies. Who knew that the App Store app used Safari cookies? Yuck! Not so much that they do it but that it is not clearly documented and known. It's taken me a couple of hours over several days to track this one down.

I just had the dame problem today I found this instruction on apple website and it fixed the problem for me.

From the home screen, tap Settings > General > Date & Time.

If the option exists, turn off Set Automatically.

Verify the time zone and time (in the status bar) are correct for where you are currently.

If not, adjust the incorrect setting accordingly.

If everything was correct and the option exists, turn on Set Automatically.

i had the same problem, error 1004 when updating apps from iPod. follow the steps that FantomFan suggested AT the begining of the thread, that worked for me.

Go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings

And confirm. This will not delete your personal data.

After these steps I finally was able to download pending updates.

Hope this Works for you aswell, good luck
