No sound only during phone calls??

I had the same problem... wasnt able to listen to others during calls... I wasnt even able to listen to ring while i was dialing any number. however, on speaker it was working fine... then i saw this video on youtube...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRSDaNcEgPw

I had the same problem with iPhone 5c iOS 8.3. This was my friends phone. There was no dial tone when I dialed a number. I could not hear anything while on call and the person that I was calling couldn't hear me. The speaker icon was grayed out. I couldn't press it when on call. The sound was working through the speaker when playing music. When I plugged in headphones I couldn't hear anything the sound was playing through the speaker even when the headphones were plugged in. A lot of strange stuff. The only thing that fixed this problem is when I put the iPhone in the recovery mode and restored the iOS. The phone is working ok so far.

My solution: I removed my Otterbox cover, and switched on the sound switch on the upper left hand side. It had been moved to an off position - happens with protective covers.

REmoving and re-inserting the SIM WORKED FOR ME TOO

Same thing…. iPhone 5 acting like the the headphones were plugged in when they weren’t. I could tell because when I adjusted the volume the notification said “Headphones”. I tried several things I found on this site and others. What eventually fixed it was cleaning out the charging port (lightning bolt) on the iPhone 5.

Just put some tape over the background suppression mic (on top of phone next to the audio jack, small pin hole) .

That lets a faulty mic think that there is no background noise and so it will work fine. Did it on mine, with tape phone's ok, no tape phone cuts my voice off during calls.

I restarted my phone and it works now.

I made an account just to say this. If you have a brand spankin new phone and can hear everything and every call on it and control the volume just fine but on phone calls they cannot hear you....tAKE THE PLASTIC OFF. If you haven't already of course. I was freaking out then had the biggest 'duhh' moment of my life when i took it off. **This is only for those with this specific problem and the new plastic films still on their phone.**

The iPhone's voume switches will control the volume of a call only when a call is active. Have you tried to adjust the volume during a call?

I have the same problem, so far it has only happend like a coupple of times and everytime my solution has only been to restart ("Slide to power of") the phone.

Actually, I think what's happening is that you're opening the phone up, taking things apart and putting it back together as the real fix. Next time, try simply twisting the phone along its length during a phone call—it will suddenly start working again. You're looking at an internal/systemic wiring problem in the phone.

Apple has come up with a solution for the problem of callers can't hear the voice while on call. IOS 5 has a option on;

Setting --> General -->Accessibility --> Hearing ( You have to switch On the option called "Hearing Aid Mode")

I have the same issue, no sound what so ever from speakerphone, earpiece, headphones and the other end can't hear during calls. All 3rd party Apps such as skype work, just not the phone app. It is driving me crazy and i need a solution ASAP, somebody please please help us all!! APPLE HELP!!

one of my client has the same issue with his iphone 4 factory unlocked.audio was working in voice memo nd even mic but not during call,even if a call comes the screen show nothing-no sound no calling person identity.wel i tried to restore it to the same version and it worked fine,the solution for this strange problem is either restore to same firmware or upgrade it.its 100%working solution.
