an app i never purchased or loaded is suddenly appearing in my app update notifications window, its called g toolkit, how do i get this off my phone? I researched the app, from what i can tell its hackers.

g-toolkit app wants to update, trouble is I've never heard of g-toolkit, I've never installed that app.

So i googled around and I find a lot of complaints, people saying these gtoolkits are hackers, and the app

is nothing but a way to get to your phone/information, etc.

luckily I never pushed update, so now there is sits, and i have to be careful not to push update all.

How do I get rid of this without hitting update, The tiny red and white #1 symbol stares at me from the top

corner of the app store icon like an evil Hal 9000.

sooner or later I'm going to hit that button by accident.

Anyone got any ideas?

As best I can tell, "Evolens Productions LTD." is a defunct (or hijacked) company which originally produced the "GmailAPP."

They also produce(d) [or published] a huge number of other apps:

A large number of "ALL" and "Top" apps including:

Countries/Cars/Cities/Music/Dogs/Cats/Popes, etc

FunCard

xWallpaper

iLinks

iLinks Pro

FunCard Lite

XMasCard - Plus

GmailApp

GCalendarApp

GDocsApp

The "scooping" entity "mobiledevhq.com" has 29 pages of apps listed for them! (all with similar names.)

"G-Toolkit" is an objective-C interface to the Gimp Tool Kit - written (according to its web page) for X11 and Win32. It is not documented as existing for OSX or IOS. This G-Toolkit has been around since about 2000. (freshmeat.net/projects/gtoolkit/)

I do not have the tools or expertise to determine if the G-Toolkit app in the App store is legit or bogus, but all the various comments, including the way in which it spontaneously appeared lends support to the idea that the site and or company has been hijacked.

To "Completely" delete it, you need to first delete it from your iDevice and then right click on the entity in the "Apps" listing in iTunes and select "delete" and select "delete forever" (or whatever that message says).

You likely got "infected" the same way I did -- I have been using the "Gmail.app" for at least a year now, and got "G-toolkit" when it was last updated.

One has to wonder if this is the same entity responsible for the "Mac Defender" attacks.... the simultaneous timing is suspicious.

Hey Gracestar!!

Ok, jad haddad's post about deleting the gmail app was right. I also had the G-Toolkit app try to update on my iPhone, though I never purchased or downloaded it. Once you delete the Gmail app [one with the blue background and red letter "M" on the envelope] the "G Toolkit" app update will go away. Just like that!

The funny thing about that app is that I know someone who purchased an iPad recently, and I tried to find that Gmail app to put on their iPad, but couldn't. I wonder if it was detected as a bogus app. Hmmm....

had the same mystery app update - g-toolkit - was suspicious of it and did not download it. deleted my old gmail app from iphone4, deleted it from the apps list in itunes, just as suggested by everybody here.

wonderful, the 'update g-toolkit' thing disappeared. yay!

but..... now i cannot go back and download and reinstall the legitimate gmail app from google. everytime i try, by doing as the instrx say, instead of going to the mobile site, it routes me to the browser login.

tried many many times. deleted the cache, searched online for other people having the problem. nothing.

strangely i was able to download the new google search app just fine, and all my other stuff seems to be working

(although, maybe, or maybe not, related, all day my fb app was crashing and acting up; finally deleted and reinstalled, all is fine; my phone is having a 'bad app day' ?)

help, anybody??!

i just want a regular gmail app like i had before. do not want a web login, or to access my gmail through iphone mail

has anyone else done the delete gmail app from their phone and itunes and then had success downloading and reinstalling gmail app?

any advice much appreciated! thanks
