You can delete any apps you've purchased off your ios devices by holding down the icon until it wiggles then pressing the x. You can delete any apps you've purchased off your computer by going in to iTunes, clicking on Apps in the sidebar, selecting the app you want to delete and press delete on the keyboard. But as far as deleting them out of the cloud, I'm not sure what you're asking there. If you are looking a your purchased items in the app store, what you're looking at is your purchased history. You can't delete your history. The advantage of that is that if your computer or ios device crashes and you didn't back it up, Apple has a record of everything you've purchased (including those things where the purchase price was $.00 or free) and you can re-download them without incurring a cost. So if you do not want them on any of your devices then delete them everywhere and don't re-download them. So as far as your apps and music are concerned you're not storing those in your own personal icloud account using up your 5GB. They are all stored in Apple's store and you can look at your purchase history and re-download what you want.

TO DELETE A PARTICULAR APP'S DATA FROM iCLOUD:

GO TO SETTINGS, ICLOUD, MANAGE STORAGE, SELECT DEVICE YOU ARE USING (iPhone or iPad), SELECT SHOW ALL APPS.

WHEN YOU FIND YOU'RE APP THEN SELECT OFF. IF THERE IS NO OFF OPTION, TRY SLIDING THE APP LEFT TO RIGHT MOTION (either on screen or after going another step to app details, swipe all details left to right and confirm want to remove apps iCloud backup).

NEXT, FYI IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE DEVICE WITHTHE APP DATA YOU HAVE TO DO THIS PROCESS FOR EACH APP ON EACH DEVICE.

AFTER ALL APPS HAVE ICLOUD BACKUP TURNED OFF ON ALL DEVICES, GO TO SETTINGS, ICLOUD, STORAGE AND BACKUP, THEN SCROLL DOWN AND 'BACK UP NOW' on each device.

Thanks, Laurie, for the detailed information as to how iCloud stores purchase history.

My teenage daughter has, inadvertently, downloaded totally inappropriate apps. I want to, no, I need to, delete the purchase history of these apps from her iCloud account. I don't want to just 'hide' them. It is morally wrong to expect that she has to carry this inadvertent and inappropriate purchase history with her for as long as iCloud exists because Apple has decided not to include a 'delete' button. It is also wrong to expect that we should set up a new iCloud account and purchase her regular apps for the second time, and ignore the previous iCloud account, which as I understand it, will continue to exist.

Apple - please address this issue as a matter of urgency.

Thanks

Has anyone tried going to the list of Apps in the iCloud (Settings, General, Usage, iCloud:Manage Storage, Backups:*YOUR DEVICE*...) and selecting "Delete Backup"? My personal thought is that if this is just the backup, that you can delete it all from the iCloud, reopen iCloud on the same device, and that the newly created backup from reopening will only consist of your current apps. Any thoughts/people willing to give this a try?

The best way I know is to go to settings.. iCloud..... Manage storage... Click on device..... Show all apps... Turn the apps you don't want sync on off.... Make sure everything you want sync is on iCloud... Factory reset everything... Log back into iCloud it's like having a brand new device.... THIS TIME ONLY DOWNLOAD USEFULL APPS.... HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE....

Purchased content does NOT count against your useable account quota limit. Apple stores all your lists of purchased items on their dime and their space. Your free 5GB or whatever more you pay for is for YOUR files and data.

P.S. And think about it, why would Apple fill Tb of server space with peoples apps and such that were purchased from their very own store. They already have that material stored on the iTunes and App store servers, so all they need to keep extra for each user is a simple list of purchases, and then link them back to the source files for redownload.

It's not deleting the apps that's a problem, it's removing them from your purchased items in the App Store. This is not an option right now and it's really frustrating when you've downloaded a rubbish app, no longer want it, yet it clutters up your purchased items. Please Apple, for those of use who like to be tidy, please address this issue as it would seem its frustrating for many if us with iOS devices, thanks.

Steve, how do you get to the purchase history in iTunes to show the apps so you can hover over them? I have the latest version of iTunes (11.0.2), and I can't find any screen that looks like the screen shots in this article. I click on the purchase history icon I have in the left hand navigation of iTunes, under the Store Heading, but it only shows me musice I've purchased. It doesn't show any apps. I also tried going into my account and selecting the purchase history from there, but it only shows me an itemized list of apps I've purchased with prices. The closest thing I found was under the iTunes in the Cloud section under my account, there is a link for viewing hidden purchases. That looked like the screen shots in the article, but it doesn't show all the apps, just those I hid in the past through my iPhone. But unfortunately they way I did it before doesn't seem to work anymore on my phone.
