If you have feedback for Apple, you can post it here: Apple - Feedback

Here is the support article that explains it: Hide and unhide purchases in iTunes or iBooks on your Mac or PC - Apple Support

You can manage your storage by upgrading your iCloud storage plan or reducing the amount of storage that you're using. You can reduce your iCloud storage by choosing which apps and backups to store, and you can move or delete documents, photos, and email messages that you no longer need.

the above comes from Apple!

So for all the people being rude and acting like they know something they don't and providing wrong information to others here that statement comes from Apple.

I do not store things on the cloud but I keep getting messages that I have to increase my storage and the only thing added is the pass from my phone and iPad. So people should educate themselves before giving others the wrong information. I have no documents and haven't taken pictures because of the storage and every time I upgrade the software I am told to increase iCloud storage. So it is the apps as stated FROM APPLE in the statement I pasted.

And it's wrong! The next tablet I get will not be Apple because of this scam.

Very good and exactly what you need to do to prevent apps you purchased from re-downloading if you want a newer version of the app. It was frustrating to me at first as well but Apple is NOT to blame. Its a solid idea allowing you to download a app you previously purchased especially if you accidently deleted it or any number of reasons you might want it back such as a new device and you can or have not done a backup. The advice is just that advice, remember experience is the best teacher, learn EVERYTHING about your devices. Just some 'advice'.

Universe out.. nuff said.

Here's the answer, it CAN be done. Follow these steps:

  1. Open iTunes up
  2. Go to your account and the purchased section of it
  3. At the top there's two options; all / not in my library... Choose either one but the latter one brings everything up you'll want to delete
  4. Find the app or apps you want to delete
  5. This is where Apple catches you out as it WAS easier before but this time it is a bit crafty. Hover your cursor over the TOP LEFT CORNER of the square until a little 'hand' appears and just click. Where that hand appears there used to be an 'x' to 'delete' the app and take it out of your cloud
  6. End the task in the app store and open it back up and check that it's done (it will be fine) but just to make sure

I've read a few posts about this and about storage but it has nothing to do with the storage section so it's been misinterpreted by a few people. Hope that helps

I messed the screen shot up but hover the cursor over the top right hand corner of the app you want to delete and just click, then in the app store it won't show the cloud icon anymore to say you've downloaded it. it'll just say 'GET'. Most apps you may want to delete are in that Not In My Library section... hope that helps. Look for that white glove then you know you are in the right place

Michael Black, That being said, is "The data that Apps store or generate" maintained via iCloud after an app in deleted from every device? I've been trying to delete and reinstall an app, but the only option I'm given is to re-download from iCloud; at the very least, there is a different icon to touch when finding that app in the store. Are you implying that there is no difference between downloading an app for the first time from the AppStore and re-downloading a deleted app from iCloud? If you are, is it literally impossible to remove the history of aforementioned app download?

So I just had this problem. 4.8G was full and it was all because of backups. Logging into the iCloud website and navigating to your iCloud storage will show you how much data is tied up in backups and other things like email, etc. So I went to setting in my iPhone and made sure Backup and iCloud Drive was turned on so that when I go into Settings->iCloud->Storage->Manage Storage, my device pops up (a little picture of my phone). I clicked on that and told it to delete my last/all my previous backups and I got 4.8G of my 5G back. I then turned off backup and iCloud drive as well as any other apps that have a switch to turn off any automatic iCloud storage. So hopefully that means I don't have to worry about space getting clogged up now. I don't really need so much stuff backed up anyway. If I get a new phone, I prefer to start blank slate regardless. It appears that the others are right about old "deleted" apps not taking up space. Those apps just hover there in limbo indefinitely, but it doesn't matter.

Thank you for posting this. I too have very little data on my phone (clear photos regularly) and have nothing else except music (not a lot), and got the same message. Even after deleting back up I gain no more storage. I would love to get rid of apps I no longer want and cannot help but think these are somehow contributing to the lack of storage on my phone.

Apps in iCloud do not count against your storage.

Apps are not included in a backup.
