They can certainly power down the phone though. That would accomplish the same thing.

Could you explain how I could do that please.
Do what?
2raj2raj seemd to be indicating if you use the FindMyiPhone app on you iPhone (instead of logging into iCloud.com on your computer) , it will not send an email.
I haven’t tried it so I don’t know.
I tried to turn off iCloud but it also turned off find my phone.
Correct.
How can I use find my phone without logging into icloud please
You cannot.
Clearly, Apple has once again imposed its values on its customers without asking them, warning them or giving them the option of opting out. The arrogance of the 20-something's in Cupertino, to think that they know what 40, 50, and 60 year old parents need, is truly astounding. Almost enough to drive us back to the competence of Microsoft.
its a shame it was a great app to use seems there maybe a glitch cause everytime the email is sent after loging on the app says it was used on a new device which it was not a new device been doing it for a year from the same device. I guess all good things come to an end.

Ah, good catch! I checked my emails and mine say the same thing. I'm even getting the email when I log in from my own phone. Hopefully this is just a bug that Apple will correct. Nonetheless, I still fail to see the logic in sending a notification for logging in to this app, even if it was from a new device; Especially in the case that your device is stolen. True, one must know your Apple ID credentials to turn off the Find My Phone service, but it certainly won't stop them from powering down the device which will accomplish the same thing. When something is stolen, you have a very narrow window to locate and retrieve your property. This email will just serve to alert the thief that they're being tracked. Not cool at all.
Yeah there is really NO reason for the emails is there? If so what is it? I really don't like it! I track my husband many times a day with it (with his permission) and neither of us wants him getting constant emails about it. I love him and want to know where he is for his safety and my peace of mind. It's barely about spying at all and even if it was why is Apple stirring up trouble?

Why not simply use Find My Friends?
Thanks that does seem much better! And faster too! And I don't have to constantly type in his password all the time! Hopefully he won't have to deal with constant notifications either!
Same issue here, my wife is running all over the county due to her job and frequently cant be reached by phone and one wonders sometimes if all is well. She also already receives a ton of mail and get frustrated deleting all of these mails from Apple telling her nothing of value!

One simply use Find My Friends app...
I agree that there are too many people on here saying that they're using it to track their friends or children, etc - this is clearly not what the feature is for, given that there is another Apple App specifically for that purpose. It's called Find My Friends - https://www.apple.com/apps/find-my-friends/
However, I too would still like to turn the notifications off. Because I have the phone on silent at work all day, it's often still on silent when I get home. I use this feature when I don't know where in the house, office or car I left it - I can't call it, it's still on silent. When I find it, I don't need a follow up email to tell me that I tried to find it. It all comes down to people using their phones - and this feature - differently. I know Apple doesn't like giving users options to personalise, but let us adjust our security settings..!
It's just like the emails to tell me that I logged in to iCloud at all - Apple needs to change this to only after so many failed attempts or something.
Anyway - my point is: Find My iPhone is NOT the same as Find My Friends.
