I am unable to update my apple tv gen2

When I try to update the Apple Tv, I recieve a message saying that the device cannot download the most recent update and that I should try again later. I have also had issues signing in to Netflix, but those issues seem to be unrelated.

Fellow Apple TV update victims. Wouldn't this just be a lot easier for us all, if Apple posted a message on their Apple TV support site stating that the servers are currently experiencing problems and they will announce when all global servers are fixed? It would certainly save me doing my 10th 400mb download and cursing Apple when it fails again.

Apple are you listening?

PS still not working in Australia

I bought an Apple TV a few days ago and had this problem which is clearly a worldwide problem with Apple's update servers. That did not stop my Apple support guy taking me through half an hour of resetting my modem and my Time Capsule and my Apple TV and then advising me to use a micro USB which I don't have (and which my local Apple Authorised repairer didn't have either). I bought a micro USB which didn't work (possibly a faulty cable) and tech support then advised me to send it back for repair or refund. I chose refund thinking it would be quicker to order a new ATV than to wait for a repair. It's not the fact that the update servers are not working which is annoying me it's the rigmarole of pointless attempted fixes returns and repurchasing Apple tech support put me through when they knew (or if they didn't they ought to have known) that it's a problem at their end. A bit of humility and honesty from Apple would go a long way...

I spent about 5 hours dinking around trying to find a workaround. Manual downloads, forced ipsw restored, nothing seemed to work. Apple doesn't like to admit when they have an issue. Look at the malware issue they had, the techs were told not to admit there was actual malware for macs. Maybe I'll just build a XBMC instead for about 200 bucks and return the apple TV.

You wouldn't expect them to admit that their systems have been hacked by a pre-school sheep herder in Outer Mongolia, would you?

You are right about the silence, however.

When and if this update arrives is of no great consequence in itself to most folks. it's the "Why-so, because?" bit that is so irritating.

Still not updating in Ireland, for the record.

Although I haven't checked this morning, the update failed late last night again. Come on Apple, post something on your site, and ADMIT that there is an issue. Like others in here, I had to search and dig before finding out about this. I called tech support about a week ago, and they would not specifically tell me what the problem was, but to just check the update in a few days to see if it was working. Are you kidding me?

I work in IT as a DBA, and if I ever tried to pull that line on my customers, I would be hung out to dry.
