Will OSX Lion still support FCP Studio?

With the disaster that FCP X is turning out to be, is there any indication as to whether or not any versions of FCP Studio will still work with OS X Lion? I have a sneaking suspicion that it will not, considering the approach Apple has taken with the FCP X release, but I haven't heard anything definitive yet. I'm hoping Apple will come out with some kind of statement regarding FCP X soon, because the way this release has been handled is absolutely bizzare. If there is no intention of continuing to support the professional community, just say so, and everyone can move on to something else.

FCPX is the EOL of FCP for professional editing workflows. Most major CA post houses have already migrated to alternative NLEs and are adjusting accordingly. The trust factor has been destroyed and it cost a lot of $. Some people are still upset and dissappointed in what happened, most have just moved on. We have already "wound down" all our bays, keeping FCS 3 onboard just for legacy / conversion / archival purposes... no more FCPX purchases, and no plans for them either, no matter what. As a wise man once said, "Sc**w me once, your fault; twice, mine".

Nice to hear from you again ProMaxed. 😁

6 months on and you still haven't got over being jilted! 😉

Ofcourse I, and anybody else who reads this, will totally disregard anything you say, about anything!

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me

Shame on you then ProMaxed... 😁

I've read most of this thread and no one has stated if they've been able to successfully install FCP Studio 3 from the disks on a new computer with Lion on it. That's my situation. I have a new laptop with Lion, have FCP Studio 2 (which won’t install because of the PPC issue), and I’m thinking of buying the upgrade version of FCPS 3 so I can install it.

Has as anyone successfully installed FCP Studio 3 from the disks on a new computer with Lion or a fresh install of Lion?

I also can't install Rosetta because I don't see it on my Leopard install disk. (If someone knows how to install it from a Leopard disk, please tell me how.) I don’t have a Snow Leopard install disk but may be able to find one.

It would be better to run it from 10.6.8 but I understand the situation you are in precludes that path.

Had I known of the PPC install issue I wouldn't have bought a computer with Lion on it. Who would have thought Apple would make an operating system not compatible with programs put out just a few years ago? And stop selling the software to force you to use an inferior version.

Apple has been doing this for its whole existence. There is nothing new in any of this whole mess.

You have to remember that what you think of as "a few years" is two generations in computer terms.

Technology is on a relentless path of innovation/revision. Step off that path, even for a short time, and you will be put in a position that requires you to start over fresh.

This isn't like table saw technology where I can use the latest carbide saw blades on my 30 year old machine (or vice versa - using my ancient saw blades on a spanking new machine). The interaction of software and hardware are such that you have to keep the two together in lockstep.

There are other ways to deal with this. You could return the new Lion based machine and go looking for a quality MacPro that will run Snow Leopard.

To 'the black sun' - I've been following your posts since FCP X was released and I've noticed they are all aggressively / sarcastically pro FCP X for some odd reason.

Your attitude to ProMaxed and others who make very valid points are, quite frankly, the most childish and pathetic I've seen on this forum..

Maybe you could enlighten us as to what 'professional' environment you are using FCP X so successfully in ?

Like a lot of others who you mock, I make a living using FCP 7. I've tried FCP X and it really doesn't cut the mustard professionally.

I can't speak for Hollywood but here in Bristol (BBC Natural History, Aardman plus hundreds of other post production facilities) you can bet your life they're not using it for anything serious.

Why do you think it's professional ? What's your agenda ?

Don't bother posting if you're going to be sarcastic.

Final Cut X 10.0.3. Restores Professional features...

I suppose it would be crass to point out that FCP supported 99 "angles" and FCX only does 64. And despite the fact that the author's rampant love for the product causes him to gloss over this because "how many simultaneous cameras can you use?", it is a step down and hurts MY use of multi clip - which is for music videos - where you can often have more than 64 takes.

And if FCP to FCX is available for $10 bucks, why didn't Apple offer it in the first place? Sort of gives lie to their statement that it couldn't be done.

I tried out Phil Hodgetts' ten dollar 7->X and while it did get the project in, of course it was sans all plugins, as one might expect, BUT - all motion projects had been replaced with a black box. Presumably because they would need to be converted from Mo4 to Mo5. Including the Motion templates that used to automate the process of titling in FCP. This again points out why Apple should have done the conversion and not relegated the task to third parties. They could have done a far better job of it. They just decided not to.

And I still don't see anything about EDLs.

I got Final Cut Studio 2 working fine in OS X Lion simply by using a OS X Snow Leopard Disk to install Rosetta through the optional installs.

Open the disk

Click on optional Installs

Install Rosetta and Quicktime

Pop In the Final Cut Install Disk

Let it runn the course

Have fun.. .

I didnt read the whole list of posts so i dont know if this was covered?
