Safari can't load Apple.com, but Chrome can

I am running Snow Leopard version 10.6.8 and Safari 5.0.5. A problem has developed with Safari. It loads most sites just fine, but some sites, including Apple.com, never load. The error is:

Request Timeout

The server timed out while waiting for the browser's request.

Reference #2.76e2ea3f.1309225081.0

Yet Chrome loads Apple.com instantly!

Here's another error message I've never seen:

ERROR

The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the requested URL the following error was encountered:

Connection Lifetime Expired

Footprint has terminated the request because it has exceeded the maximum connection lifetime.

Go to your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab.

Click: Show Cookies.

Type apple in the search field, click Remove All then click Done.

Now empty the Safari cache from the menu bar then restart your Mac.

Try http://www.apple.com/

Here's ur first "me too"

I have a MacBook running OS X 10.4.11. I recently (probably 3-4 days back) noticed that my Safari was acting weird. Facebook stopped loading. The mails inside yahoomail stopped opening. Weather.com would return the "Footprint has terminated the request" message. Some sites returned "Request timed out". Google.com was opening just fine though. It seemed like the problem was spreading. Firefox also started taking really long to load some sites. Take this : Only the 1st page would load in this particular forum thread. When I clicked on the "Next" page link, the request timed out. Imagine my frustration at not being able to see the latest replies!

I started out by trying Bee's solution of creating a new account. That worked fine for the first time a page loads... and then the same problem took over. I did a Virus Scan and nothing came up. So, I figured the problem could be with the router. The "phishing mechanism" probably found its way into my router and is redirecting my url elsewhere and so the pages would never load.

So I replaced my current modem w/ built-in wireless router with another modem (which has no wireless capability). Now I'm able to access internet with no problems.. however I'm having to surf internet only in my guest room, right next to the modem as my ethernet cable is pretty short.. I may have to buy a much longer cable or get a brand new wireless router. Any solutions regarding fixin my ol' router would be appreciated!

Etresoft -- Brilliant!

Gary: I see Footprint as part of the problem, not the solution.

So does Etresoft.

Gary and nilimar -- Which ISP are you guys using?

How old is the router?

How many connections does it support?

(Grasping at straws here . . . )

Question: Why is your Mac Pro the only one affected, connecting wired?

And why can't you connect well wirelessly to a router that's 60ft away?

Safari can't load Apple.com, but Chrome can
