"Email address is already verified for another Apple ID" Problem

So today I wanted to organize my 2 Apple ID's.

My first apple ID is anferne@gmail.com and my second apple ID is anferne@me.com

Last year I decided to change the primary email address for my Apple ID: anferne@gmail.com to anferne@me.com and vice versa.

So now the Apple ID is anferne@gmail.com

Primary email address is anferne@me.com

The second Apple ID is anferne@me.com

Primary email address is anferne@gmail.com

So today my problem is I can't switch them back. I can't have the same email address as my Apple ID...

But it keeps saying the "Email address is already verified for another Apple ID" 😟

Help please?

I got this fixed today using iTunes Store Support Express Lane (https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.do?PRKEYS=PF4). Had an online chat session with a rep who got it fixed for me. Took about 10 to 15 minutes. It needed their intervention as it's not something that one can currently do oneself (deleting a previously verified email from an Apple ID does not disassociate it from that Apple ID which is the root of all the frustration).

Am having similar problems and is driving me crazy. Had a gmail id and now have a me id as well. Both will not e.g. let me choose the other one as a second email in messaging as it is already in use!!

Worried about changing the gmail one as all my itunes and app store purchases are through this account.

Any ideas very very gratefully received

Here's my issue...

I had a mobile me account that had my primary gmail account as the "alternate email address." I did the icloud migration and on my ipad when I tried to use my gmail account as the address at which to receive iMessages I was told this email was verified with another ID. When I logged in to manage my me.com apple ID it no longer listed my gmail account as an alternate address BUT if I try logging into the mobile me website it does AND it won't let me edit it - the dialogue box is locked.

Any ideas on fixing this? Apple was really stupid with the way they went about this whole process.

Same problem just reared its head for me *sigh*. Everything was working fine, including on 2 new iPhone 4Ss, then just today, for seemingly no reason, it started popping up a message on the App Store app that I needed to verify my email. Well I logged in but got the same "Email address is already verified for another Apple ID." message when trying to change it. After a long of painful research I discovered 2 old Apple IDs that I think had my current Apple ID email set as one of the email addresses (why this problem never showed up previously I have no idea).

Since I no longer have the previous email addresses of those, I created 2 temporary email addresses on my own domain to use to temporarily verify the old accounts and free up my current Apple ID from them. That part went fine, I got the emails and clicked on the verification link.

Then the real problems started. I could no longer log into the old Apple IDs using the password which I had just used, apparently the verification process reset the password. OK, so I'll use the "answer security questions" method to log in instead, right? WRONG. For some unfathomable reason, IT CHANGED MY BIRTHDATE. Since birthdate is the first security question, there is no way around this. (And I know my birthday WAS working, because that's how I got into the accounts in the first place, since I didn't have the old email addresses anymore.) And, since the verification process seeminly didn't complete (even though it said it did), I no longer get emails at the new addresses I set up, I assume they reverted back to the old ones, which are forever inaccessible to me!

What a nightmare, and I have a feeling the fix (if there is one) is not going to be an easy one, if the results here are any indication. Apple IDs are a complete and utter mess, and a painful failure seemingly without any resolution! Man, I love Apple products, I've been supporting them for over 20 years and easily 10s of thousands of dollars in purchases, but the whole Apple ID/iCloud ID/Mobile Me ID/iTMS ID fiasco has really soured me and gotten me angry. 😠

Oh, I forgot this:

So I thought "OK, I cannot change my old Apple IDs. I'll just create a new email address on my domain and use THAT as my primary email." But alas, I cannot change the email address at all on this ID, nor can I add any secondary addresses. There is a save button, but it never lets you save the changes. I'm pretty sure this is one of the flakey side effects of converting a former .Mac/Mobile Me ID.

Ugh. Apple, I really, really hate you right now.

OK I will add my name to list of users caught in iCloud / iStore snafu. Purchased a iBooks gift card to buy some books for an upcoming trip and went to login and I get the dreaded message. Open a support case via Express (slow) Lane and have not heard anything back. So now I cannot access the iStore to spend money with Apple.

Apple can you please respond to all of out here stuck in the snafu? Thank you.

Having the same problem! I have gone through the motions of verifying the accounts (I have 2). Verification email comes and makes me reset my password. Okay, done, and redone...... still said verified by another Apple ID. Why aren't they (Apple) fixing this?! Oh, wait, because they have a total lock on the market and well face it, where you gonna go? iphone, ipad, .... 7 apple products in the house and this is the service I get. Sweet...not.

Yes, this is very frustrating. Each time I try to delete my @gmail.com email from the Apple ID, apparently it doesn't work, because when I add it again (even after logging out, etc.) the system doesn't ask me to verify that email again. For other emails, this doesn't happen: each time I delete it, I have to verify again.
There must be some sort of bug in the Apple ID verification system. Please fix this issue! Can some users tell how to ask fo support for these issues?

I followed this person's suggestion and I can now access my itunes account again on everything, albeit under a different name so this is a good workaround until Apple fix it. Maybe it is something to do with the Itunes Match that is about to go live and of course the new iCloud feature as my itunes email was actually verified as one of the alternate addresses in my old Mobile Me Account which has been transferred to Icloud under the same login and could not be verified again.Totally stupid of course since I have been using that login for Itunes since Day One. I think Apple owns my soul at the moment as I have sent a whole week trying to fix things. I wish I was being paid for my time!

This is incredibly annoying...

Have been using the same Apple ID for about two years and then all of a sudden it started telling me I had to "verify my email address" but it's already verified. Even when I log on to their website it clearly says my address is verified.

I don't want to change my ID or my email address. I just want things to go back to normal.

Can't update any of my iPhone apps until this is sorted out.
