AppleMobileDeviceService.exe is hogging up to %50 of CPU

This just started happening... I have not connected iPhone to my Windows machine, but the AppleMobileDeviceService.exe service just decided to start being a glutton... Any one know why??

Thanks

Unfortunately, "it depends". On Windows 7, here's what I do:

  1. Click the round "icon formerly known as the Start button" in lower left of your screen
  2. Type "cmd" in the "Search programs and files" field -- but DON'T hit <enter> just yet
  3. "cmd.exe" will show up as one of the found Programs...
  4. Right-click on "cmd.exe" and choose "Run as administrator"
  5. Issue your "netsh winsock reset" command
  6. Reboot

By the way, this worked for me! Got my CPU back :-)

I have found a solution to this on Windows xp.

Step 1

First go to control panel in the start menu.

Step 2

Go to administrator tools then through that go on Services.

A Services Window should pop up with lists of Services.

Step 3

Click "Stop" the service.

only solution for the task manager proccess.

Following D528's note OKAY HERE IS THE FIX in

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3200832?start=60&tstart=0

which essentially is an uninstall of Apple software on the system and reinstall iTunes with a couple of sequence and some specific reboot instructions, worked OK. (I skipped his step 8)

It resolved the iTunes and AMDS cpu consumption on my Windows XP system.

I can now connect to the store. Synced with iPad and iPod nano. No CPU hogs. I did not reinstall Safari, so don't know if it resolved that. Podcasts updates and app updates worked. 🙂

I had the same problem described here. Solution was to reinstall iTunes. However! You have to do it this way:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925?viewlocale=en_US

There are 6 componants to remove, confirm they are removed, and reinstall. It took about 20 minutes. Computer is purring like a kitten. The above instructions are for reinstalling with Windows XP, but there are links for Vista and 7.

Well the latest QuickTime update got me.

Same symptioms with iTunes and AppleMobileDeviceService as before.

So repeated the uninstall Apple produts, reboot, install iTunes, reboot ritual. And back to operational and no 100% cpu.. I guess I really don't need the QuickTime fixes.

Used the previously downloaded iTunes 10.4.0.80

Did you see solution for Windows 7 and similarly Windows XP from JerryFromKrakow at: iTunes for windows - App Store's blank page - final solution

1. Fixed the itunes blank store window.

2. Also fixed the backup/sync problem.

3. Even solved the AppleMobileDeviceService.exe high cpu problem.

Please reply after trying Jerry's Windows 7 fix.

For Windows XP, see steve2273 fix.

Please reply to let others know what got fixed or did not get fixed by this.

Kamrath,

I'm sorry to report that Apple doesn't care of this problem. If you have any software that adds an LSP (Layered Service Protocol) to your computer, it will make this problem reoccur. Thankfully in the case of Bsecure CloudCare users, Bsecure figured out a workaround since Apple wasn't willing to fix it.

In case you haven't already read these, here is Apple's KB:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123

And my reporting:

Apparently I figured out that my previous solution doesn't work twice. I searched through another solution from

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3383758?start=45&tstart=0.

There are quite a number of more complicated solutions to follow, including resetting windows nesch, LSP, blablabla. Perhaps will be clearer for computer experts out there.

However the simpler solution that I found is surprisingly here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123

I found out that my Speedbit Video Accelarator was 1 of the software has a conflict with Apple software.

I tried uninstalling it, and another Voila.

Apple Mobile Device Services (AMDS) stopped hogging up the CPU. I can now sync my iPod.

Maybe by uninstalling all other softwares that were indicated as a conflict by Apple, this can solve the problem.

Let's see if this works for everyone else?

Cheers,

MT

This is similar information.

After installing of 10.4, AppleMobileDeviceService.exe used most of CPU power. Any applications that are running on that PC became slow. I decided to downgrade of itune. It seems this is a compatibility problem between itunes 10.4 and ApplieMobileDeviceService.exe. Because AppleMobileDeviceService.exe was same after deleting it, when I installed 10.2.2. I'd like to wait a new version which solves this compatibility problem.

Same issue. Actually, double glutton. Upgraded and problem started. AppleMobileDeviceService.exe is taking one processor, and iTunes takes another processor. On a dual processor machine, that doesn't leave much.

Powered system off and did a reboot. No apparent change.

After about 20 or 25 minutes of using a processor flat out, the iTunes usage dropped to near zero.

Also other anomalous behaviour. Like a complaint about needing a disk in the letter position that the iPod was already connected to and for which iTunes had already finishing sync'ing.
