AppleMobileDeviceService.exe is hogging up to %50 of CPU

This just started happening... I have not connected iPhone to my Windows machine, but the AppleMobileDeviceService.exe service just decided to start being a glutton... Any one know why??

Thanks

Hi all

I found this thread http://brianmorristech.com/?p=762 after reading some of this thread.

From the command line: netsh winsock reset worked for me.

My setup is Windows XP sp3 running the most current version as of the date of this post of iTunes and Safari plus whatever eisle they have been throwing in to confuse things

I hope this helps some of you

Cheers
Chris

MrFidget,

Thanks for mentioned my post about the root causes of this issue. This is a problem with Apple's software, not with our computers! Apple, please visit my post and fix this problem. For every one user that has enough computer knowledge to find this problem, there are probably 9 that don't know why their computer is so slow.

I list the main solutions listed in the forums and suggest the root cause -- iTunes' not liking LSPs! Many times LSPs are bad and they need to be cleared, but many times they are good. Bsecure's CloudCare is a good example -- having that installed will cause this problem. APPLE?

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the original post. This has helped me out now on a few systems.

Just for Google's sake, it has fixed:

AppleMobileDeviceService.exe taking up 100% CPU

Safari 5 stopped working

iTunes 10.5 can not sync with iPhone

This is the reason why I have moved over to VoIP and networking and as far away from PC stuff.

Thanks once again.

like everyone else... I am in the same boat with AMDS pushing my CPU usage to 100%, even when iTunes is not in use or open!

followed by:

iPhone fails to backup... just stalls after 2 minutes, and is no longer recognized when connected to iTunes

iTunes store is just a blank page, even when I login.

and I tried all the fixes: removing all Apple software in order, uninstall, re-install, deleting the library.xml file and a few other I found online, and nothing f'n works!

since this started in July, and at this point, I just give up on Apple products and going to look into Android for mobile device. Apple couldn't give 2 sh%ts about Window users which is more than obvious.

I am running Windows XP and had this issue for several weeks where AppleMobileDeviceHelper was at 50% of my CPU capacity. Also, iTunes could not go to the iTunes Store. I followed the instructions above to uninstall all of the Apple software in order as suggested on the site. Reinstalled the new version of iTunes (10.5) and same problem. The uninstall / reinstall did NOT fix anything.

I saw another suggestion and tried this from a command prompt: netsh winsock reset

Rebooted and everything works again! This was a small miracle after trying so many things. This took about 5 minutes to try. Read more about it here.

Good luck!

I had same problem with applemobiledeviceservice.exe taking 50% of processor. Then when itunes is opened it takes the rest and doesn't connect to the store properly. I had to uninstall my anti-virus software and now it works. Just disabling the firewall didn't do it, it had to be completely uninstalled. Gotta figure out how to get anti-virus working.

I had another problem. I am using windows vista and have two user accounts on the laptop. Uninstalling CA solved the problem for my account (administrator) but when my kids logged into their account they still could not get to the itunes store. I had to turn off parental controls for it to work on their account. Thought this may be helpful to someone else. Still haven't re-installed CA.

I have a Windows 7 laptop. Ran Windows Update to get all latest critical updates and patches - have no idea if this affected the fix but thought I would include it in my post. Can't remember who originally posted this CMD but opened CMD prompt under "run as administrator." Ran the following command:

netsh winsock reset

Rebooted and all is well with the world. The Apple Mobile Devices service no longer consumes 50% of the CPU cycles and I can now access the Apple Store via iTunes.

Also, someone else on this thread mentioned to set the Apple Mobile Devices service to start in "Automatic (delayed)" mode. This seemed to also greatly improve boot up time on my computer.
