Lion Finder sidebar color?

Hey!

I've just upgraded to Lion and I'm kinda dissapointed of many reasons, like the grey aweful sidebar icons in the finder app.

Is there any solution to change it back to the normal like it was in Snow Leopard?

The other thing is the Mail app. The new surface looks horrible as well, even if I change it to "classical view".

I want the older back! It was good as it was!

There is no way of adding color unless there is a third party solution out there. Grey is the new color!

I'm not so sure, if that was the case our custom icons would be showing up still, just in grey. They are being totally overridden. Asking for color would be asking for them to keep overwriting all icons but with their choice of colored ones. Why would we be begging for color, shelling out thousands of dollars to Apple when we used to have 100% control. No one at Apple should care if we keep grey icons or not lol. Who's computer is it? My checkbook says its mine. This is almost like forcing a standard wallpaper accept, that at least, would not hinder productivity.

as always it's all down to numbers/sales - if enough users demand it, they WILL put it back so don't dismiss Mac user's weight/influence in Apple's decision making process :

remember when a new iTunes came out with a searing white background ? user's outcry was such that in the next software upgrade the choice for grey was back.....

now obviously that just ranting about it among ourselves won't do it, IT IS through the Apple feedback page &why not, petitions as well.

only then will Apple haver some poor schmoe at the office counting for & against emails so later they can decide what to do about the issue at hand

P.S.: also signed it & sent at least three different feedbacks about this & other things

Fair call. And yes it does look as though Apple are watching this (as Spid commented about his petition post being removed).

On the side, has anyone come across a Lion user manual or any other form of documentation? I've looked through the Apple support site, but can only find manuals up to Snow Leopard...

Lets keep at Apple on this issue via the feedback tool

I hope apple is watching. I agree that the icon colors in the Sidebar are very much needed - it definitely made it easier. And I agree that the previous section (devices, places, favourites) is a better order than what Lion offers.

I just upgraded to LIon last evening and am very disappointed with these changes.

Finder was my primary route for locating my data files; and for copying / moving them also.

Disappointed with Lion

It's kind of ironic. It reminds me of the first iMac ad, in which Jeff Goldblum dissed beige computers. You could apply his rant to Lion: "... grey..., it's nothing, it's boring, it's bland. Why in heaven's name have the people who've made Lion, made the icons grey. That's nuts! That's nuts!...Have they been in thinking jail?... That's crazy!"

Grey is the new beige.

The head of the design team should be fired.

Anybody find a way yet? I've been stuck using Path Finder because the grey Finder icons make me want to puke every time Iook at them. And I can't even reorder my categories in the sidebar now. Thanks for the downgrade Apple!

This may be an alternative (paid of course) if the developer can be convienced to add it. At this point I would pay to have some color icons back.

The Tweak Apps are coming...

One of the Genius' at my local Apple Store said a few apps have come out in the past couple of weeks addressing a lot of the Snow Leopard to Lion differences. However, he admitted that the colour icons in the sidebar is still an allusive feature. He mentioned one in particular that he had seen on 9to5mac:

You can get it directly from http://www.ifredrik.com/applications

If anyone finds any other tweakers - please post the links!

It does work and I haven't had Finder freeze on me yet. Just make sure you install SIMBL. The path is: /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins. Place the ColorfulSidebar.bundle in the SIMBL Plugins folder, open up Terminal, and then type in killall Finder and hit enter. I apologize for the large picture.

Ok I noticed a problem after logging back in after changing something. When you log back in, it does return to the default grey icons. It can be fixed but if you go into Terminal and type killall Finder again it will bring the color back.
