ps: the xxxx should be an ip address but I photoshoped it, cause i don't like private information to be leaked.

Anyone who has the same problem. I contacted LaCie support line, they say it's a known problem at every NAS manufacturer and it's apple to do an update for this issue.

Some did have updates either already distributed or ready to go.

Kudos to those who were ready to go. But with the exception of these, I think no one else comes out of this fiasco smelling of roses - not the manufacturers and not Apple. Let's hope that Apple has learned to signal such important changes more clearly, and the manufacturers have learned to respond to such signals in a timely manner.

Sorri for MISS INFORMATION,

there is NO SUCH as a BETA 1.2.94

I got a friend comming over the night just trying to fix the issues.

we got the solution but it's a very unstable solution which can cause DATA loss en security issues.

I told it was a beta that's not available for costumers. This cause I was to quickly posting that I found the solution.

so I told it was a secret beta of lacie only available for partners.

but the solutions I have been working out with my friend is VERY VERY unstable and invovles disabling some security levels in the network drive, which you unless you want the security and date loss risk and no possibility to update your network drive afterwards.

I'm deeply sorri i was trying to hide some information.

but If I would release this temporarly unstable solution in to this form.
I hink lacie will be having a lot of costumers calling for disks having failures and problems with upcoming updates en security problems.
I didn't want that to happen.

In the mean time LACIE was following this case online and contacted me to ask for the solution.

We talked a bit and they kind of find the same unstable solution at the moment. But they are still working at the problem and are really trying to fix the issue ASAP with a stable full working release. They hope to have un update during august.

And here I want to apologize myself against LACIE for overhelming there support by costumers asking for the beta which didn't exist infact.

THanks a lot for you understandings. I didn't meant to harm or get some fingers pointed at someone.

last reply from Lacie.. (5 min. ago)

"Thanks for the update. The R&D is working on this and they will release it soon."

As of March 2011 untill now ... it will work with the lastest update (so finder can access the drive), timemachine will work after the new release which is now scheduled "they will release it soon."

The latest update will be downloadable via you lacia admin > support panel. (http://ip.address.yourlacie)

I smell two letters.... BS. After all that now you're apologizing about it not existing? LOL So um, way to be helpful by lying or misleading?

This is an exact copy of a reply I got back from a LaCie support ticket I opened up concerning the Time Machine/AFP issue:

I would like to let you know that we are currently working on issues regarding Mac OSX Lion compatibility, we do apologize for the inconvenience. In the mean time please try the fix HERE for enabling AFP service. As for the capsule update 1.2.94 beta it haven't been fully tested so it's not available yet.

Thanks, and please let me know your results.

David

So according to this support rep, there is a 1.2.94 capsule beta being tested but not available for release.

Whatever the case, I'm sure LaCie is working on something. I even asked them to see if I could beta test it, but they said it is being tested by LaCie and Apple engineers.

All in all, I guess we're just going to have to be patient.

It's cause LaCie is a horrible company.

Netatalk has been updated with these new features long before Lion came out. The specifications for the new version were present in Snow Leopard, but since compatibility was not broken in SL none of the manufacturers ever updated Netatalk.

So we had like what, 6 months of a developer preview on OS X Lion and tons of manufacturers didn't think it was necessary to update support for their NAS devices. So pathetic. These are companies that supposedly do a ton of business and they don't have the foresight to make sure things work. Two weeks after Lion comes out and still no fix. They "fixed" file access.

In the meantime their site still says "Time Machine" compatible on the product page for every current generation NAS device.

I won't be buying another LaCie product after this one dies. Time Capsule costs more but at least you know it'll work....

Lol, if any company is pathetic, it is Apple for not including backward comparability with previous versions of a protocol. I won't even go in to how bad Lion is with interacting with enterprise level SAN installations. Even when you enable the old method of authentication over AFP it fails pointing out further how Apple cripples its own software to force paid upgrades.
